Town Of Brookfield Spotlight - August 2022

Government and Politics

August 1, 2022

From: Town of Brookfield

I hope this finds each of you enjoying summer. We went from beautiful fair weather (with no rain) to extreme heat. Please remember Brookfield offers cooling stations during normal business hours at the Brookfield Library, Brookfield Senior Center and Greenknoll YMCA.

First and most importantly, if you're not already signed up for our Everbridge service or you need to update your contact information, instructions to sign up are on their webpage. Everbridge is our local emergency notification system used to communicate via messages sent to all standard voice and text communication devices, including landline and mobile phones and email. The Everbridge system will be used to notify residents about imminent threats to health and safety. Public safety officials may send alerts about life threatening emergencies. This is important, so please sign up!

Eversource shared a few Summer tips with municipalities across Connecticut. Please see these tips on the town website and actions customers can take now to beat the heat this Summer.

There's a flurry of activity across town with Parks & Rec programs, camps, and events at the Brookfield Lions Club, Police and Fire Department, Booster Club, Library and Senior Center – to name just a few. Please be sure to check each group’s respective social media sites for more information.

With the new fiscal year just beginning, there's been a lot of work across town hall. Brookfield Board of Selectmen passed a loitering ordinance, the marijuana moratorium for one year and the affordable housing moratorium for four years. The Charter Revision Commission was established and began their work (they meet every five years). The Streetscape projects and Still River Greenway study are underway. The town applied for a STEAP grant to address the public health and safety issue of failing septic systems which seep into the Still River at the Craft Center area. We're awaiting word on funding in support of our Town Wide Communication System overhaul from Senator Murphy’s office and our new Candlewood Lake Elementary school is on time and looking wonderful!

While we're sad that Doctor Raymond Sullivan announced his retirement and leaving as our Public Health Director, we're excited to welcome Ryan Soto to the team as our Behavioral Services Liaison.

Yours in Service,
Tara Carr
First Selectman
