Kerry Jones: The Last Innocent Year
Wednesday, September 27
5:30 p.m. Reception
6 p.m. Reading
Free

Join us to celebrate the 45th anniversary of WSU’s Creative Writing MFA Program as Kerry Jones (MFA 2000) reads from her book, The Last Innocent Year, winner of Southeast Missouri State University’s Nilsen Prize. Jones’s fiction has won the Richard Yates Short Story Award and appeared in Sycamore Review, Alaska Quarterly Review, and Bryant Literary Review Quarterly.

Adam Prince, author of The Beautiful Wishes of Ugly Men, praises The Last Innocent Year as a “startling debut,” one that “takes us right to the brink—of childhood and adulthood, yes, but also pleasure and pain, truth and fiction, victim and perpetrator, past and present.”

Writing Now/Reading Now is cosponsored by the WSU Department of English, Fairmount College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, Watermark Books & Café, and the Ulrich Museum of Art. This free event takes place in the Beren Gallery.

Voices from the Vault is a series of artist talks to celebrate the Ulrich’s 50th anniversary. We’ll begin our celebration of the 2010s with an artist talk by Chaz Guest, an American painter and sculptor of profound inventiveness known for capturing the raw essence of the universal human spirit.

Guest’s vivid painting, The Tenth, was acquired by the Ulrich in 2022 and featured in the recent exhibition, Myths of the West: Narrating Stories of the Land and People Through Wichita Art Collections. This free event takes place in the Beren Gallery and everyone is welcome.

Have you shared your Ulrich memories with us yet?

Our 50th anniversary is right around the corner (in 2024) and we're planning lots of great exhibitions and events to celebrate the Museum's excellence. One thing we are working on is collecting memories from folks who have been connected to the Ulrich over the years. Whether you are a present or past employee, a donor, volunteer, student, or general visitor, we'd love to hear your favorite memories of the Ulrich. We've created this webpage, which has a form on it, to help you share your stories. The memories we collect will be shared throughout our 50th anniversary celebrations and might even end up in a book we're putting together. We'd love to hear your stories.
