Tuesday, November 1

Early voting-  With parent permission, students from three high schools who wish to vote, register or observe the voting process will be transported to a nearby early voting location to do so. Citizenship and civic literacy are part of the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. State law encourages local districts to register students to vote and to keep voter registration materials on hand for parents and others visiting public schools and other governmental institutions. The Fieldtrips will continue daily November 1-3.

Wednesday, November 2

Better Together Community Conversation- Superintendent Dr. Whitney Oakley continues her community conversations. At 5:30 pm, she will engage in dialogue with teachers and staff in Greensboro at the Greensboro History Museum.

Builders Vibe Community Night- HGTV’s Jasmine Roth will headline a panel discussion during our Builders Vibe Community Night. The event will celebrate and showcase students in the CTE Carpentry Pathway. Students will demonstrate their skills and take part in a vesting ceremony. Four students will receive a bonus check for their accomplishments. Students in the carpentry pathway have been learning how to address America’s affordable housing crisis and earning $15-20 per hour in pre-apprenticeship programs. The event is from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm at the Elm & Bain Event Center.

Thursday, November 3

Dual Generation Workforce Initiative Information Session- Parents and guardians of Guilford County students can now enroll in a new Information Technology (IT) certification program. Guilford County Schools (GCS) is proud to launch the Dual-Generation Workforce Initiative (DGWI). The program will train and certify parents and guardians for high-skill, high-wage and in-demand industry pathways. The program is free and childcare is available thanks to our partnership with GuilfordWorks. Parents and guardians who wish to participate must be at least 18 years old and reside in Guilford County. The first virtual information session for the program starts at 5:30pm. Those who are interested to attend can sign up here.

Helpful Information for Families

The federal program covering the costs of school meals has ended. Families must apply online to receive free meals by visiting www.lunchapplication.com.
