From: The Norfolk Library

It was a banner year for the 45th Annual Book Sale, sponsored by the Library Associates. Proceeds from the sale help underwrite the Library's many free special events, films, concerts, book discussions, children's programs, and more. Thank you so much for your support!

The success of the Book Sale would not have been possible without the hard work of Bridget Taylor, who spent much of the summer in the basement of the Library, sorting and boxing thousands of books. Her dedication to finding homes for every single book is inspirational. And every book will find a home. Those that did not sell or were not given away for free were picked up on Monday by Discover Books, whose mission is to redistribute them to support literacy efforts. Free books were also selected for Books Through Bars, an organization that provides books to prisoners; Books for Africa; Our Culture is Beautiful to support awareness of cultural diversity; and books for a veterans home in Newington among others.

Working alongside Bridget was Trish Deans, who masterfully and efficiently researched and priced ALL the books of better value, the sale of which contributed to half the total proceeds; and Liz Hilpman, Co-Chair, who organized the many volunteers and dealt with numerous logistics.

Thank you to Bridget's team of book sorters, who spent many hours in the basement: Elizabeth Bartle, Linda Bell, Karen Byers (there almost every day as the basement got full!), Hope Childs, Carol Goodstein, and Elizabeth Yoakum; and to Chris Keyes for relocating dozens of boxes of books as they accumulated, in order to keep the basement safe and the books accessible for sorting.

Many thanks to Galene and Rich Kessin, who provided sustenance for our volunteers over the two days; Caroline Andrus and Susan Caughman, who ran a highly successful advertising campaign; Paul Madore, Treasurer of the Library Associates, and Tom Hlas for their cheerful and indispensable help on the cashier line. And to Louise Davis and Galene Kessin, Co-Presidents, and Jack Dillon, Past-President, for their leadership of the Library Associates this year and their presence throughout both days of the sale!

Thanks to the following volunteers who schlepped, straightened, and sold thousands of books (with apologies if we missed anyone):
