at the Whistler House Museum of Art

Together the harmony of words and music is sublime!

Join the Hellenic Culture and Heritage Society on Sunday, April 23, 2023 from 1 to 3 p.m. to celebrate national poetry month at the Whistler House Museum of Art!

Discover the connection between music and poetry with live performances in the museum’s Parker Gallery. Poet Walter Bacigalupo will share his most recent work accompanied by saxophonist Doug Leaffer. Violinist Beth Bahia Cohen will also be performing, as well as reading poetry by her father, Joseph A. Cohen, who wrote until the age of 100.

The event is FREE AND OPEN TO ALL. Refreshments will be served.

Walter Bacigalupo is a member of the Board of Directors of the HC&HS and a published local poet. A founding member of the Lowell Poetry Network, Walter actively supports Lowell poets and helps to expand the presence of poetry in the area. He will be reading selections from his book, A Trip Down Salem St., and new poems from his forthcoming book.

Doug Leaffer is a saxophonist whose versatility ranges from classical music to jazz, blues, pop, R&B, and gospel. He has performed at the Boston Symphony Hall as well as East Coast jazz clubs and music venues from Miami to Montreal, even traveling internationally to Taiwan, Korea, and Germany.

Beth Bahia Cohen is a trained violinist who focuses on how the violin is played in various cultures from around the world. She plays Greek, Hungarian, Turkish, and Middle Eastern music throughout the U.S. & Canada and teaches at the Berklee College of Music. Her father, Joseph A. Cohen was a published poet who lived and wrote until the age of 100.
