Falling into the new year!

We have been enjoying the first part of our 39th year! New students and staff add to the many great things that are Bedford essentials.

New Bedford Staff Members

We are thrilled to welcome these new staff members who have already added much talent and enthusiasm to our community. (left to right) Officer Bob Stavenger is our new Campus Security Officer. A veteran of the US Air Force and the Fayette Co. Police Department, "Officer Bob" worked for 14 years as a School Resource Officer at Fayette Co. High School and another 3 years at Landmark Christian School's elementary campus. He and wife, Mary, live in Fayetteville where Bob is also a very talented wood worker. Sadie Smith was born and raised in Newnan and is a recent graduate of the University of West Georgia with a Bachelor's degree in English. There she received the Gordon Watson Award, the highest honor for an English major. Sadie enjoys yoga, movies, embroidery, and camping. Kim Diffey became a Bedford parent 2 years ago and a Bedford substitute last spring. Kim grew up in an Air Force family living both stateside and abroad including 4 years in Saudi Arabia. She is a graduate of Oglethorpe University. She, her husband, Michael, and their son, Aaron who is an 8th grader at Bedford, live in Fayetteville. Kim enjoys swimming, music, travel, and cheering on Aaron in sports. Rachael White grew up in Hampton, GA and completed her Bachelor's degree at Lee University and her Master's degree at Emory University where she received the Mary Katherine Mobley Award for academic excellence and significant social concern. Racheal worked for 7 years at St. Francis School in Roswell teaching English. She has also taught drama and coached girls' softball.

We also want to say a big shout out to 2 teachers that joined us last January as longterm substitutes and have become permanent staff members. Danah Wagner is a graduate of University of South Florida. She taught K-2nd grade in Tampa and Lutz, Florida before moving to Newnan with her husband, Terry, their son, Parker and daughter, Emma, who is in 3rd grade at Bedford. Will Queen is a graduate of the University of West Georgia with a degree in Biology. He teachers middle school science and PE and helps in our sports program. Will is a Bedford legacy, being that both of his parents are former longtime Bedford teachers.

Boosterthon '23

Our annual Boosterthon Fun Run was our biggest yet! We received over $52,000 in pledges. The money raised will go towards making improvements on the soccer field including new goals and nets, fencing, a scoreboard, and shade for the fans. Students and staff enjoyed events for goals along the way including Mr. James eating worms, staff members playing the Tortilla Slap Challenge, a Slip 'n Slime for Mr. James, Mrs. Grunden, Mrs. Johns, and Mrs. Thornton, and the Inflatables Obstacle Course Race for Mr. James, Mr. Creighton, and Mr. Johns. Parents, students, and staff enjoyed a fun race day where students completed laps while getting doused with colored powder. Much thanks to Mrs. Heather Smith and her many parent volunteers for putting on such a fun and successful fundraiser.

Fall Activities

The Lady Bears Volleyball team is having an excellent season. With a few veterans and many new players, the team is playing great together under the direction of Coach Dickens and Coach Johns.

New this year is the Middle School Boys Fall Sports Club. Led by Ms. Day and Mr. James, this group of 20 boys competes in water polo, volleyball, basketball, and brisketball, a longtime favorite Bedford sport.

Mrs. Fleckenstein again hosts several STEM Clubs where students have fun while learning about science and completing activities in topics such as earthquakes, weathering, aerodynamics, rockets, and archaeology.

Mr. Kennedy is leading another year of the Running Club. Students in grades 4-9 practice 2 mornings a week before school to prepare for running in the Peachtree City Classic and other 5K's throughout the year.

Trunk or Treat 2023

Come join us at our annual Trunk or Treat on Friday, Oct. 27, 6:30pm - 8:30pm. There will be a food truck and snack truck. We would love to see our Bedford alumni!
