Back to school and fall activities preview

Welcome back to the classroom, Tempe! Kyrene, Tempe Elementary and Tempe Union High School students returned to school this week. We have a multitude of great resources available to help all students achieve academic success and stay safe. Plus, a new school year means lots of exciting events and programs to help you learn, stay engaged and have FUN.

Fall class registration opens Aug. 14
Have you ever wanted to learn how to kayak? Or work on your basketball skills? Maybe your child wants to unleash their inner artist with a drawing class? We've got that! The fall issue of the Tempe Opportunities Brochure will be available Aug. 10 and it's full of exciting classes and programs for all ages, interests and abilities. Tempe resident registration opens Aug. 14 and general registration begins Aug. 21. Most classes kick off the first week of September.

Cool off this fall

Even though summer is over, the fun continues at Tempe's pools and splash pads. Head to Kiwanis Wave Pool or Escalante Pool every Saturday and Sunday, 1-5 p.m. McClintock Pool is open Saturdays, 6-9 p.m., for open swim. Tempe’s splash pads are open daily 8 a.m. - 10 p.m. through October.

Fall events at the Tempe History Museum

Participate in the arts, culture and history of Tempe at the Tempe History Museum! Admission to the museum is always free. The museum also hosts special events and activities all year long.

Save the date for the opening celebration of the museum's new featured exhibit, Tempe Signs! Enjoy refreshments, music and more on Thursday, Sept. 14, from 6-8 p.m. 

The museum's live music series, Performances at the Museum, returns this October and runs through May. These free, family friendly concerts honor and highlight Tempe's local music scene.
