7:00pm: Standards & Substandards

Free

A Standards & Substandards show has something for everyone! With the essential ingredients of a jazz quartet (vocals, piano, bass, drums) you’ll hear standards from the early 20th century, followed by a current pop composition with our own spin, adding a swing rhythm and a walking bass line so that “new” and “old” all blend together!

About Standards & Substandards:

Standards & Substandards is the easygoing quartet made up of Caryn Crowley (vocals/diva), Tim Herzog (bass), Adam Johnston (piano), and Ian Marshall (drums). The band has its roots in jazz traditions and branches reaching out to everything else. So, it’s even odds whether our next song in the set will be composed by the Gershwin brothers or a cover of Dua Lipa. We love playing whimsical re-creations, interesting blends of genres, classic jazz standards, or ironic twists on simple tunes. We’ll just as happily perform an upbeat jazz standard as a bluesy torch song, and we’ll also blur traditions of funk, pop, rock, and blues as the spirit moves us. Basically, we just like playing music as we reimagine it; and we love playing anywhere from a stage at the amphitheater to a backyard party to Tim’s basement.

Our name is a play on our musical stylings, starting with jazz “standards” and a question we had long ago about what to call all of the other music we arrange. But it’s also a fun nod to our day jobs as teachers, grading papers and helping students meet those learning standards, each of us in a different setting. (It’s fun to guess who the band director is among us, alongside scientists and a history teacher.)

For more information about the band, our recordings, future gigs, booking, etc., find us at https://substandards.band, follow us on social media, and play us on your favorite streaming service.

7:00pm: North Front Sound

Free

North Front Sound specializes in incredible vocal harmony!  We’re a men’s a cappella chorus based in Davis County, Utah that loves to sing in the barbershop style.  We sing all sorts of songs from across the decades, but this year we’re focusing on the awesome sound of the 80s. So, break out your big hairstyles, cabbage patch kids, and Rubik’s cubes, and bring the family to reminisce and relive the 80s with us!

About North Front Sound:

From North Front Sound’s humble beginnings in 2014 with 10 singers above a garage in Kaysville, we have grown to over 30 active and dedicated members, and in 2018 we chartered as the Golden Spike Utah chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society.  Our goal is to have a lot of fun through musical excellence.  Though the chorus rehearses in the Davis County area, members come from all over the place, spanning from Utah County to Cache County.

We have enjoyed performing all over the Northern Wasatch Front for church groups, retirement communities, and corporate and private events. North Front Sound competed in the most recent BHS Rocky Mountain District Chorus Contest for the first time, placing 4th overall and receiving a rousing standing ovation.  We were privileged to perform at Abravanel Hall in 2019 with the acclaimed international chorus, Zero8 from Sweden, and to co-host the BHS International Convention in Salt Lake City.  Perhaps what we’re most famous for is sending quartets all over Northern Utah to deliver Singing Valentines every February to the delight and embarrassment of all recipients.  We are directed by Jaron Packer and Nate Bigler.

8:00pm: Blue oyster Cult

For five decades, Blue Öyster Cult has been thrilling fans of hard rock worldwide with their influential albums loaded with classic songs including “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper” and “Burning for You.” Occupying a unique place in rock history, Blue Öyster Cult is revered within the classic rock scene for its pioneering work. Rock the night at The Kenley with Blue Öyster Cult!

About The Blue Öyster Cult:

The band is often cited as a major influence by other acts such as Metallica, and BÖC was listed in VH1’s countdown of the greatest hard rock bands of all time.

Upon the release of BÖC’s self-?titled debut album in 1972, the band was praised for its catchy-?yet-?heavy music and lyrics that could be provocative, terrifying, funny or ambiguous, often all in the same song. BÖC’s canon includes three stone-cold classic songs that will waft through the cosmos long after the sun has burned out: The truly haunting “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper” from 1976’s Agents of Fortune, the pummeling “Godzilla” from 1977’s Spectres and the hypnotically melodic “Burnin’ for You” from1981’s Fire of Unknown Origin. Other notable BÖC songs include “Cities on Flame with Rock and Roll,” “Then Came the Last Days of May,” “I Love the Night,” “In Thee,””Veteran of the Psychic Wars,” “Dominance and Submission,” “Astronomy,” “Black Blade” and “Shooting Shark.”

The intense creative vision of BÖC’s original core duo of vocalist/lead guitarist Donald “Buck Dharma” Roeser, and vocalist/rhythm guitarist Eric Bloom are complemented by Richie Castellano on guitar and keyboards, and the longtime rhythm section of bass guitarist Danny Miranda, and drummer Jules Radino.

We realized we’re a ‘classic rock’ band. That’s what we are, what we do best, and what we know. The band members are proud of BÖC’s classic sound, and are pleased the band is creating vibrant work for disenfranchised music lovers who don’t like the homogenized, prefabricated pop or sound-?alike, formulaic rap-?metal, which monopolizes the radio airwaves and bestseller charts.
BÖC has always maintained a relentless touring schedule and an album of new material THE SYMBOL REMAINS was released on October 9th, 2020 to rave reviews.

About Suzy Bogguss:

Grammy award-winning and Platinum-selling artist Suzy Bogguss is one to chase the muse wherever it may lead. She has covered Country, Swing, Jazz, Folk, Americana, and Roots music with style and grace.

During the creative explosion that was country music in the 1990s, Suzy Bogguss sold 4 million records with sparkling radio hits like “Outbound Plane”, “Someday Soon”, “Letting Go” and “Drive South”.

Suzy’s 2015 album Lucky was a heartfelt homage to the songwriting of Merle Haggard. Some may recall she kicked off her career with 1989’s “Somewhere Between,” her debut album named after one of Haggard’s early songs. With Lucky, Bogguss dove deeper into Haggard’s catalog, taking care to hold on to that original vision of finding songs that resonated with her not just pulling out and recycling the hits. The result is a modern record with a classic vibe. Merle happily gave her the big thumbs and Suzy embarked on two years of non-stop touring in support of the album.

Rolling Stone magazine included her in The Top 48 Things We Saw at SXSW two consecutive years in a row. In Fall 2016 she released Aces: Redux, to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the original release. The “redux” is a complete re-recording of her Platinum-selling album with fresh instrumentation and vocals to highlight the timelessness of the songs in this collection and highlight who she is as an artist today.

The live performance – which includes her hits and choice material from her critically acclaimed albums – has been lauded by fans, critics, and buyers as “a show not to miss!” Suzy’s appeal has never wavered and her fan base continues to grow with constant touring around the globe.

Since 2017, Suzy has also been touring as one of three “Chicks With Hits”, a show that also features Pam Tillis and Terri Clark. She also performs yearly holiday shows in select markets with her band or trio.

Suzy Bogguss truly is an artist that knows no boundaries and one who always leaves everyone wondering what she’ll do next!

Raymonda Pas de Dix opens the evening. The Pas de Dix is the swashbuckling culmination of a love triangle gone awry from the third act of this exciting ballet. The evening’s second act begins with La Vivandiere, a ballet in one act that has been performed for nearly two centuries all over the western hemisphere, and Lacrymosa, a modern dance of mourning inspired by Mozart’s Requiem, choreographed by Edward Stierle. Sir Malcolm Arnold’s English Dances rounds out the evening, ending on an upbeat note with movement to light music that was inspired by English country-folk tunes.

No tickets are required for this event. Open seating is first-come, first-served.
