From: Creative 360

August 1, 2022, Midland, MI. –Creative 360 and the Midland Section of the American Chemical Society are once again offering a series of classes for families based on gardening, sustainability and the arts. Sprouts and STEMs started in 2021 with the debut of the Children’s Teaching Garden at the Creative 360 Community Garden on Bayliss Street and this year the arts center will offer 7 family friendly STEAM programs that combine science, the environment and the arts.

In 2022 Creative 360 received a generous grant from the Midland Area Youth Action Council to make accessibility improvements to the garden and to extend the 2021 programming. Improvements are underway and programming started on July 27th with an ACS presentation, led by Gina Malczewski, on the chemistry, lifecycle and fun of fireflies and other glowing creatures.  Future programs include Bees & Pollinators (with Elly Maxwell) on August 17, Butterflies (with Laura Vosejpka and Allise Noble) on August 31, Pizza Plants and Garden Greens (with a visit from the Pizza Baker traveling pizza oven) on September 14th, Sustainable Garden Art (with Allise Noble) on September 28th, Natural Dyes and Colors (with Gina Malczewski) on October 12th and Pumpkin Carving (with the ACS) on October 26th.

“The accessible and inclusive teaching garden at our Bayliss Street site is the perfect place to learn about art, environmental responsibility and natural science,” said Executive Director and scientist Laura Vosejpka. “We are so excited to get started with this series of STEAM-focused garden experiences for children and families.”

Programs start at 7 pm at the Bayliss Street pavilion.  In case of rain, programs will be held inside.  All Sprouts and STEMs events are FREE, please pre-register by calling C360 to let us know how many people are attending so enough supplies can be ordered.
