Oceans of Possibilities Summer Reading 2022

Hotchkiss Library of Sharon & Scoville Memorial Library welcome readers of all ages to dive into the ocean depths this Summer! The 2022 Summer Reading Program is open to young people ages 0 to 12, with programs, prize drawings, storytimes, group games, ocean-related crafts, art projects, science and engineering experiments and more! Sign-up is still open & you can receive a bingo board of challenges from your library.

BINGO BOARDS- Get four in a row and come by your library to collect a prize! Complete the whole board and turn it in at the Summer Reading Finale Party to be entered into a raffle to win a bookstore gift certificate, family passes to the Mystic Aquarium, the KidsPlay Museum, a Sharon Playhouse show, a plush toy with adoption papers from the WWF and a free ice cream from Fudgy’s! Dive in to win!

Oceans of Possibilities

If you're looking for exciting reads this summer that follow our theme, we have them! We have compiled a list of six books per age group (0-5 & 6-12) that will not only help you quickly tick off the challenge boxes on your Bingo Boards, but take you away on incredible journeys. Summertime Storytime

Wednesday & Friday, 10:30am

All ages welcome

We come together to sing songs, read books, learn rhymes, play, and engage in crafts based on the Summer Reading theme, Oceans of Possibilities. When the weather cooperates, plan to be outside. Wednesdays we engage in a craft and Fridays an activity. Usually, a summery snack is on hand:)

Secret Message in a Bottle

Saturday, July 2nd, 11-12pm

Ages 6 to 12

Write a secret message in code! Choose from an assortment of ocean-themed books on display to write a secret message in code, then place it inside a glass bottle to be retrieved and decoded by a friend or family member. This program is designed for ages 6 & up. Snacks will be provided, but feel free to bring blankets and picnics along to enjoy on the library lawn. This will count towards your summer reading challenge!

NorthEast-Millerton Library, Pine Plains Free Library and Scoville Memorial Library's ONLINE Teen Writing Club!

Every Friday from 5 to 6:30PM through June.

For writers of any genre. Teens in 6th-12th grade are welcome. Registration is required. To register, please email Abbey at [email protected]

Local writer and poet, Abbey Gallagher, is continuing our adolescent writing workshop series ONLINE using written prompts, physical objects, images, and much more to spark curiosity and imagination in new or regular writers.

The program meets online every Friday.
