The Hotchkiss Library of Sharon and Scoville Memorial Library's Summer Reading Program:

All Together Now!

June 10th thru August 12th, ages 0-12

We've teamed up once again for a sensational season of summer reading! Designed to motivate children to read, maintain their reading skills during summer vacation and foster the spirit of community, this year’s program theme, “All Together Now” will provide opportunities for children ages 0-5 and 6-12 to flourish. We’ll raffle off program prizes every two weeks, and wrap things up with the grand finale on Saturday, August 12th. Let's keep our summer reading lit! Hotchkiss Library of Sharon weekly song & story time

Mondays & 1st Saturday of the month 10:30 am

Join us every Monday and the first Saturday of every month for stories, songs, rhymes, and more! This song and storytime is for ages 0-5 and will take place at the American Legion in Sharon, until moved back into the Hotchkiss Library of Sharon on Upper Main Street.

All Together Now Family Story Time

Wednesdays & Fridays, 10:30am starting June 14th

Join us every Wednesday and Friday morning for stories, songs, rhymes and more! This song and story is for all ages and will take place on the Scoville Memorial Library lawn next to the Buttons Garden. Stories and activities will be themed according to the summer reading program focus of the week. Get ready to spend time with friends, make new friends, and build community!

Leslie Elias & Daniel Saed of Grumbling Gryphons: Through The Rainbow and Into The Stars!

Saturday, June 24th at 2pm

All ages with family participation

Join us for a drama workshop: A Magical Celebration of the Imagination through Stories, Songs, Drama, Music and Movement! with dynamic duo Leslie Elias-Artistic Director and Daniel Saed, actor/ singer of Grumbling Gryphons Traveling Children’s Theater on a uniquely creative journey of fun and fantasy! Sing, dance, share in stories, poems, songs, puppets, masks, costumes and our never ending imaginations! Children and their families are all invited to participate in this fun- filled theatrical workshop!

Program attendance counts towards your bingo board and there will be a prize drawing to determine last week's summer reading challenge winners! Bring your stamped bingo boards with 5 in a row and drop your name into the hat to win! Register today!

A Firefly Celebration hosted by the Friends of the Library (FSL)

All ages

With their own spotlights, these dramatic and most intriguing creatures are the stars of many nighttime landscapes. Join us for a special nighttime story time and learn some fascinating facts about these bedazzling beetles.

Elizabeth Houck, Salisbury Central School science teacher, will lead an engaging discussion and a firefly friendly capture, count and release adventure. Magical event mementos for the little ones to take home will be provided Register here.

Scoville Memorial & Pine Plains Free Library (Hybrid) Teen Writing Club! 

Fridays from 4:30 to 6:00PM

IN PERSON at the Pine Plains Library and ONLINE for writers further afield, of any genre. Teens in 6th-12th grade are welcome. Registration is required. To register and for additional information, please email Abbey at [email protected].

Local writer and poet, Abbey Gallagher, is continuing our adolescent writing workshop series ONLINE using written prompts, physical objects, images, and much more to spark curiosity and imagination in new or regular writers.

An All Together Now Family Sing-Along

Saturday, July 8th, 10:30am

All ages

Join us for a community sing-a-long with the one and only Danny Tieger! Based on the Beatles’ songs you’ve voted to hear (there is a ballad box in the children’s library and/or cast your vote using the form below.) Danny will lead us through the choruses and songs of your favorite Beatles tunes. We’ll start out with this one of course: 

All Together Now.  Program attendance counts towards your bingo board and there will be a prize drawing to determine last weeks summer reading challenge winners! Kindly cast your vote and register here.

The Friends of the Scoville Library are currently accepting donations of books for their ongoing book sales
Mondays 10 am to 12 noon

All proceeds benefit the library's programs. Donated books should be:
clean and in good condition so that they will be appealing to other readers
relatively dust free, not discolored or written in
structurally sound with intact binding and pages which are not ripped

Please no textbooks, encyclopedias, dictionaries or travel guides older than four years. Donations can be dropped off on Mondays between 10-Noon, or contact the Friends to make other arrangements.
