Saint Columbkille Partnership School Newsletter - March 2023

Schools and Libraries

March 20, 2023

Dear Saint Columbkille families and friends,

We were so saddened to learn of the closing of two local high schools at the end of this year:  Mount Alvernia in Newton and Saint Joseph’s Prep in Brighton. Many of our young alumni are students there and many of our current 8th graders had hoped to attend them. Closures like these hurt. Naturally, they hurt the current students, staff and teachers, but they also hurt all of us who so deeply believe in the value of Catholic education. The closures have also given us a chance to pause and reflect about the gift we all have at Saint Columbkille Partnership School.

We have the gift of committed families, a healthy enrollment and a dedicated Board of Trustees.  Our teachers are the best, which our families consistently tell us in our annual survey. Our students are curious, respectful and motivated. Our alumni are nostalgic, supportive and generous. Our donors care deeply about the work we are doing to ensure a high-quality Catholic education for all who seek it. In short, we are a blessed community who continue to thrive.

As I write this, the first graders are proudly sharing the leprechaun traps they made in hopes of catching one. Our 2.9 students are learning about different cultures by sampling foods from India, China and Ireland. Our second graders received First Reconciliation last Saturday and are now preparing for First Holy Communion. A group of committed 6th grade entrepreneurs are selecting and pricing healthy snacks for the after-school Snack Shack. We are also in the midst of preparing for our 13th annual BC Race to Educate, which is such a fun and exciting event for our families and community. In short, our students are living out our school pledge of learning to love, give, learn and live with the help of Jesus Christ in the Greater glory of God. We are blessed!

Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of Saint Joseph Prep and Mount Alvernia High School. We wish you all a Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Gratefully,

Chief Advancement and Enrollment Officer
