A Note from Saint Columbkille

Dear Saint Columbkille families and friends,

There is a trend in education for high schools to develop a “Portrait of a Graduate.” The “portraits” include an expanded definition of student success, including core academic knowledge, as well as other competencies that help students be successful in life. While we do not yet have a formal Portrait of a Graduate at Saint Cols, the Class of 2023 certainly exhibits traits that I believe help to define one. The Class of 2023 is:

- smart. All 28 students gained acceptance into excellent high schools, many earning academic scholarships. 71% are attending Catholic high schools. The schools they are attending include: Arlington Catholic, Belmont High, BC High, Boston Green Academy, Brookline High, Catholic Memorial, Fontbonne Academy, Malden Catholic, The Newman School, Newton North & Newton South and Ursuline Academy.

- resilient. This class navigated the pandemic and many of them navigated choosing new high schools as late as May when three area Catholic high schools announced unexpected closures.

- kind. The Class of 2023 embraced our Buddy Program, understanding that by supporting and caring for younger students, everyone gains.

- inclusive. At Law Day, this year’s winner poster included the sentence: “Responsible citizenship means… loving your country, using your voice… welcoming all… [and] treating others like you would like to be treated." The Class of ‘23 understands that.

- joyful. Graduation was a week ago and most of the students have been back in the building laughing, smiling and offering to help with end of the year tasks.

The Saint Columbkille Partnership School Class of 2023 represents so much of why parents have chosen to send their children here for more than 120 years. Our “portrait of a graduate” includes helping our students to become people for and with others. As we end our school year, we are thankful to all of the families who choose to send their children to Saint Columbkille. Together we will continue to help our students become people with and for others.

Have a wonderful summer!
