Dear Saint Columbkille families and friends,
I have been obsessed with zebras ever since I saw the movie Madagascar. In it, Marty the Zebra is intent on leaving the Central Park Zoo. He and his friends escape and go on a wild adventure only to realize that life in Central Park Zoo was pretty good and they belong there.
We are a lot like Marty and, in fact, a lot like zebras. Zebras are fiercely loyal. If one zebra is hurt, the other zebras form a protective circle around him or her. No two zebras have the same stripes. Zebras are known for being attentive and have incredible hearing, which allows them to listen for any harm that might be coming their way. A group of zebras is called a dazzle, named for the motion dazzle effect that is created by a group of running zebras. The last two years have proven that we are each other’s zebras. As a community, we have been attentive to each other, protective and at times, have even dazzled each other.
As we head into summer, some of us might feel like looking for a wild adventure, a real change of pace. While I wish you the summer of your dreams, know that just as Marty and his friends discovered they belonged at the Central Park Zoo, we all belong at Saint Columbkille. We are a community of zebras, no two of us are alike and together we create the dazzle called STCPS.
Our teachers, parents, alumni, donors and, most importantly, our students have all made this year remarkable. We look forward to welcoming you back in September knowing just as Marty did that we belong here.
Happy Summer!
