Hangar Talk Line-Up:

The Story of VMF-214 "The Black Sheep" and their amazing WWII History

For a brief period in late 1943, a squadron of United States Marine Corps aviators captured the attention of Americans at home.  The story of VMF-214 is one of superior aircraft, outstanding tactics, and dynamic leadership.  We'll explore the squadron's formation and its legendary accomplishments while we look at the personalities of many of those who were a part of this historic group.

TECH NOTES: Spinning the Tale of the Propeller

They come in a variety of configurations - from wood to steel, two-blades to four.  In appearance, they all seem the same and they seem quite simple.

The Museum's Ken Saltgaver will probe deeper into the development and technology behind this functional part of every piston-driven aircraft to reveal a fascinatingly complex component designed to make for fast and efficient flight.

The True Story of the Greatest Rescue Mission of World War II

Planes of Fame's Mike Smith will take us on an adventure as he relates the real-life story of a fantastic but little-known chapter from the Second World War.

By 1944, hundreds of Allied airmen were secretly harbored by Chetniks and Partisans in what was then known as Yugoslavia.  Getting them out and to safety before they were discovered by the enemy is the stuff of true adventure.
