Be Wildfire Ready!
Each year, thousands of structures are destroyed by wildfires-and millions more are
at risk. The speed and intensity of wildfires mean that firefighters will not be able to protect every property.
The Superstition Fire & Medical District encourages everyone to take the risk-reduction steps that can make your home, and our community, safer during a wildfire. For more information and resources, please visit:

Explore The Arizona National Scenic Trail
Pinal County District 5 is the showcase of recreation opportunities in the Superstition Region. This Quarter we are featuring the Arizona National Scenic Trail.
Arizona National Scenic Trail History
The Arizona Trail was the dream of Dale Shewalter who envisioned a cross-state trail in the 1970s, and in 1985, while he was working as a Flagstaff schoolteacher, walked from Nogales to the Utah state line to explore the feasibility of a trail traversing Arizona. Immediately thereafter, Dale began traveling around the state giving presentations on his vision of a trail connecting communities, mountains, canyons, deserts, forests, public lands, historic sites, various trail systems, wilderness areas, and other points of interest. The idea was embraced by all types of trails users throughout Arizona, and by Arizona State Parks and the Kaibab, Coronado, Coconino, and Tonto National Forests, the Bureau of Land Management, and National Parks Service. Living with Mountain Lions
Mountain lions can be found throughout Arizona and are most common in rocky or mountainous terrain. Because mountain lions are shy and elusive, people do not often see them. Mountain lions are solitary animals with the exception of females with kittens or breeding pairs. Signs of mountain lion presence include large tracks (3-5 inches wide) without claw marks; large segmented, cylindrical droppings; food caches where a kill has been partially eaten and then covered with leaves, brush, or dirt; and scrapes in soft dirt or leaf litter.
Living with Coyotes
Coyotes are common in rural and urban areas across Arizona. They are often observed at night or around sunrise, and it is not uncommon to find one napping under a shrub in a brushy backyard or neighborhood. Because coyotes are so common in both rural and urban areas, the information below may help to reduce conflicts with them. The Arizona Game and Fish Department does not respond to calls to relocate or remove coyotes unless they are a public safety concern. Those needing assistance relocating wildlife should contact a licensed wildlife removal business.
