Schools and Libraries

June 11, 2022

From: Pequot Library

Dear American,
Pequot Library has thrived over the past year. From rare books and eBooks to exhibitions and events, the Library has been able to grow thanks to our patrons’ support.

We welcomed our new Special Collections librarian, Cecily Dyer. In addition to the great care Cecily is taking to ensure proper maintenance of our rare books, manuscripts, and artifacts, she is working on exciting programs, exhibitions, and other initiatives that will make our Special Collections more accessible to the public.

We hosted Pequot Library’s first-ever Climate Summit. Partnering with Sustainable Fairfield, Westport Farmers Market, Waldingfield Farm-Organic, Perfect Earth Project, and Aspetuck Land Trust to educate the community and build awareness about steps we can all take to reduce waste and help our planet.

Two long-awaited exhibitions featuring our Special Collections were brought to fruition in the Library’s Perkin Gallery and online, along with companion programming for all ages. First, with support from Connecticut Humanities, Magic, Mayhem, and Maturity: The Growth of Youth Fantasy Literature examined the emergence and evolution of youth fantasy literature from The Wizard of Oz to contemporary YA bestsellers. Then, [Her]story: Women’s Roles Through History, shed a bright light on the many roles women have held in society from the mid-1700s to the modern day.

YOU CAN HELP PEQUOT LIBRARY FINISH ITS FISCAL YEAR STRONG
SHOW YOUR SUPPORT

We could not do all of this and carry out our day-to-day operations without the support of our patrons. Nearly 77% of our budget is raised through private contributions like yours, and patron donations are what allows us to be a library for you.

To meet our annual fund goal, we still need to raise $120,000 by the end of our fiscal year on June 30.  We are grateful for your generous contribution to the roof campaign. Would you consider making a donation to our annual fund this year, which provides critical support for our day-to-day operations? Can we count on you to make a donation before June 30?

I truly appreciate your consideration. A gift today will help support our most principal mission: to continue to serve free of charge a broad, inclusive community.

With gratitude,

The Pequot Library Community
