Palm Harbor Library Newsletter - January 2023

Schools and Libraries

January 4, 2023

From: Palm Harbor Library

Hello  -

The new year has arrived! We've accomplished so many things this year: from memorable events and tons of loaned books and materials, to improvements to your library and even the addition of our Short Story Machine! There are only about 300 of these machines all over the world, so this is pretty special. Our awesome teen librarian Samma recommended the idea and library assistant AJ helped personalize the awesome design. We can certainly thank George and Mary Louise Kocerka for funding this project! We hope to incorporate local authors' writings someday as well. Currently, there are three options of stories to choose from: children, general audience, and Spanish. Try one today!

An opportunity to volunteer at your favorite library?! IT'S TRUE! PHL is looking for two volunteers to assist processing children's donations for our bookstore. Interested? Contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Winona, by emailing her at: [email protected]

Have you seen the latest Palm Lines episode? Check it out here!

We have so much library goodness packed into our first 2023 newsletter. Enjoy and share with friends and family!

Check out our FULL calendar of events here

*In January, the library will be closed on Monday the 2nd, Monday the 16th, and closing early at 3 PM on Friday the 27th.*

Teachers, First Responders, Volunteers, and Role Models deserve a "Thank you!" We would like to honor the incredible women that continue to make our beautiful Palm Harbor community better everyday. On March 20th, 2023 the Palm Harbor Library will be holding a ceremony to recognize four selected women. These women will receive funds to donate to a charity of their choice! Head here to obtain information on how to nominate a woman in our community.

A new collectible rubber duck will be revealed on the first day of each new month. Upon purchasing your first "duck for a buck," you'll receive a punch card: At the end of the twelfth month, if you have all your card holes punched you will receive a special mystery duck prize! Hurry by early in the month, though - supplies are limited!!

If you want to sponsor a month to help raise money for the Library it's only $50. We will recognize you for that month's themed duck!

Our January duck is the classic yellow; stay tuned to the newsletter to see what next month's duck will be. Hint: we think Old McDonald will approve of the February edition...

Handy, Robert Johnson, Lead Belly, Willie Dixon, Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, B.B. King, Fats Waller, Bessie Smith, Etta James, Louis Jordan, Billie Holiday and Big Joe Turner.
