From: Museum Of The City Of New York

Dear MCNY Friends and Community,

In 2023, the Museum of the City of New York will mark its Centennial – a landmark achievement for any institution, especially in this city of perpetual reinvention. As New York City’s storyteller, the Museum’s Centennial will kick off our second century as the oldest continually operating city museum in the nation.

As we embark on this landmark year, I hope you’ll join me in wishing outgoing Ronay Menschel Director and President Whitney Donhauser well as she assumes her new role as Deputy Director and Chief Advancement Officer at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Whitney led the Museum over the past seven years to a new position of strength and resilience. The Museum’s Trustees and executive leadership have begun the exciting process of selecting Whitney’s successor, who will lead the Museum into the next century.

Throughout the coming year, we will be launching new programs and special exhibitions that will chronicle the city’s growth over these past 100 years and invite visitors to imagine the impact that New York City has had on their lives – and on the lives of millions of people around the globe. Join us all year long as we celebrate the very best of our city!

We hope to see you soon as we ring in the New Year and our Centennial!

Happy holidays,

Sarah M. Henry, Ph.D.
Robert A. and Elizabeth Rohn Jeffe Chief Curator and Interim Director

What to See

Experience the magic of our confectionary city! We invited top bakeries and amateur bakers from across the city to enter Gingerbread NYC: The Great Borough Bake-Off—our first-ever holiday celebration of the communities in each of the five boroughs. Select bakers crafted gingerbread designs inspired by their respective neighborhoods, inspired by the theme "Winter in New York." Don't miss these culinary creations, on view through January 8, 2023.

In the News:
The word is out about Gingerbread NYC! The installation was featured as one of the best public art displays in NYC in Untapped Cities and one of Time Out's best things to do this week.
