Path Through History: Women of the House Tour

Sunday, October 9

This specialized, exterior Mansion & Grounds Tour offers an in-depth experience of Manhattan’s oldest remaining house through the lens of Women’s History Month focusing on the strong women who lived and worked in the house – such as Mary Philipse Morris, Martha Morris, Eliza Jumel, Anne Northup, Lillie Earle and Kady Brownell.

This tour includes a guided 45-minute exterior orientation to the site and grounds, and remarkable women who lived and worked here, followed by the opportunity for an intimate self-guided tour of the interior of the Mansion.

This program is a part of I LOVE NY’S Path Through History Weekends which showcase New York State’s fascinating history. More Info.

Wednesday, October 19

Karen D. Taylor is the founder and executive director of While We Art Still Here, a 501 (c)(3) organization formed as a response to the threat that 409 and 555 Edgecombe history faced partially due to the passing of time, and partially due to  “gentrification,” which is rapidly altering the neighborhood of Sugar Hill and surrounding areas. Ms. Taylor will discuss her current initiative, SIGNS OF THE TIMES: Harlem Heritage Markers Project, which will install 25 local historic markers in the community in Spring 2023.
