Moraine Valley celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

Moraine Valley Community College is hosting several events for Hispanic Heritage Month virtually and on campus, 9000 W. College Parkway, Palos Hills.

The celebration kicks off with “Legends, Myths and Curiosities!” on Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. This virtual event will explore popular folklore from Hispanic countries. Access the webinar at morainevalley.edu/hhm.

“Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month!” will include a flauta lunch for $5 on Wednesday, Sept. 27, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., in Building U. This event is sponsored by the Alliance of Latin American Students (ALAS), and all money will go toward Project Care to support the on-campus food pantry.

Play the popular “Mexican bingo” game ¡Lotería! on Wednesday, Oct. 4, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Building U, Room U111. Join ALAS and win a prize.

Latin Grammy-nominated musician Gina Chavez will perform on Saturday, Oct. 7, 7:30 p.m., in the Fine and Performing Arts Center’s Dorothy Menker Theater. Tickets are $28 to $35 and can be purchased at morainevalley.edu/fpac/tickets or by calling the Box Office at (708) 974-5500.

“VOCES” provides students access to information and college employees to help them better understand programs of study and how to graduate or transfer. This event is on Wednesday, Oct. 11, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., in Buildings S and U.

The celebration will conclude with “Día de los Muertos” on Wednesday, Nov. 1, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., in Building U. Learn about the origins of this festive occasion.
