Moraine Valley offering noncredit cannabis programs

As the cannabis industry grows, careers in manufacturing and cultivation are in demand. Moraine Valley Community College offers two noncredit online programs for those looking to start a career in this field.

The Advanced Cultivation Technician and Advanced Manufacturing Agent Certificate programs provide students with in-depth knowledge on working in commercial cannabis greenhouses and warehouses. Students can enroll in their chosen program at any time and complete it in as little as eight weeks.

The Advanced Cultivation Technician Certificate will allow students to work with plants; understand irrigation and watering essentials; seeds, germination and cloning; genetics; and light sources. The Advanced Manufacturing Agent Certificate will teach students about product development, product testing, extraction processes and principles, and production operations.

Moraine Valley is partnering with the cannabis curriculum experts at Green Flower, which provides some of the world’s most comprehensive and on-demand training platforms and is the industry standard for cannabis education. Its content features industry-leading professionals using best-in-class learning practices.

According to the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, “2022 set adult-use cannabis sales records in all categories it tracks.” Sales reached more than $1.5 billion, which is 12% higher than in 2021. In 2023, the department intends to issue at least 185 new Adult Use Dispensing Organization licenses, which will lead to even more career growth.

All new students will be eligible for a $50 discount. To learn more about Moraine Valley’s cannabis programs, visit morainevalley.edu/cannabis.
