From Murder to Movies with Author Paul Drexler

Who decides what moves from fact to fiction on the silver screen? Join us as we welcome celebrated true crime author Paul Drexler for a discussion of his upcoming book Murder to Movies. Paul will discuss the real-life threads that have become some of our most celebrated crime films and how those choices are made. He will also be selling his first novel, Notorious San Francisco at this event.

Paul Drexler has been a San Francisco-based crime writer for over 30 years and his column, “Notorious Crooks” appeared regularly in the Sunday San Francisco Examiner and has been featured as an authority on San Francisco murderesses, the Barbary Coast and the Zodiac Killer. In 2017 Paul received the Oscar Lewis Award from the San Francisco History Association for his writing on San Francisco history.

Fascinating Mushroom Spores

Join Else Vellinga to explore the world of mushroom spores - where they are formed, how they are spread  and where they want to end up. We’ll see why some spores are colored and others have warts. And we’ll learn other fascinating facts about mushrooms, such as their size and lifestyles.

Else Vellinga is a mycologist who is interested in naming and classifying mushroom species in California and beyond, especially Parasol mushrooms. She has described 22 species as new for California. She got her training at the national herbarium in the Netherlands, and her PhD at the University of Leiden. Else describes herself as a Dutch, cat-loving, knitting mycologist, who lives in Berkeley, CA.

Doors open at 6pm. Presentation starts at 6:30pm. Register for the event.
