For over four decades, the Marine Mammal Stranding Center has been the only organization in New Jersey dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of sick and injured marine mammals and sea turtles.

To date, our staff and volunteers from the MMSC have responded to more than 5,870 calls for seals, dolphins, whales, and sea turtles that have washed ashore along all of New Jersey's beaches. We could not do it without our generous supporters.

Saving seals takes many hearts and hands... This is why we rescue.
Grey seal #22-018 was found lying on the beach in Ship Bottom on March 15th, 2022, weak and wounded. The pup was admitted into our ICU for veterinary care, and MMSC's veterinarian consulted with Rancocas Veterinary Associates and Veterinary Cardiology Services for further evaluation. With the help of an exam using diagnostic techniques, she was diagnosed with a cardiac condition.

While the treatment plan prescribed controlled the issues with her heart and helped her to finally thrive, her condition also meant that she would not be able to survive in the wild. Not willing to give up on our "Heart Seal", MMSC worked with NOAA and NMFS to find a permanent home in an amazing zoological facility that will provide her with lifelong care, enrichment, and the companionship of other seals.

It is because of YOU that we were able to give this special seal a second chance at life. YOU are the hearts that enable our hands to perform this life saving work. Without the support and donations of our caring community, we would not be able to continue our mission to rescue these amazing marine mammals.
