Our private summer beach programs are back!

This year bring your family to join us on a simulated sea turtle and dolphin rescue!

Enjoy this one-on-one private experience on the beach in Brigantine, New Jersey. Using real stranding equipment, our MMSC Educators will guide your budding marine biologists through hands-on activities that allow everyone in your group to experience what it is like to be a Stranding Technician.

Fun Fact Friday!

Walruses are pinnipeds, cousins to the seal species we see here in New Jersey. Belonging to the family Odobenidae, walruses are represented by two subspecies: the Atlantic walrus and the Pacific walrus, both found in the Arctic. Walruses forage for invertebrates such as clams, snails, crabs, and sea cucumbers by using their sensitive whiskers (known as vibrissae) to locate prey items in the sediments of the sea floor. They use jets of water and suction to dislodge their prey from the sediments. Both male and female walruses have tusks. The tusks are large canine teeth that grow throughout their lives, and are used to aid in hauling out, for defense, and during breeding season for males to display dominance. The most dominant males have the largest tusks- sometimes reaching over 3 feet in length!
