Courtney Wooten
Suburbia Rising

Courtney Wooten (she/her) grew up in Berkeley and Oakland, where the legacy of hippies and Black Panthers made civic engagement feel as natural as breathing. Courtney serves as an equity consultant in the Pacific NW focusing on educational systems, municipalities, non-profits, and faith communities. A Board member for the Creative Dance Center and Edmonds Center for the Arts, she also sits on two Snohomish County Commissions. Courtney’s current advocacy work centers on racial justice and intersectional feminism.

A lifelong learner, writer, artist, speaker, and activist, Courtney Wooten holds a BA in Sociology from Stanford, an MA in Social Justice & Community Organizing, and is a Ph.D. student in Sustainability Education, and just completed a Fellowship with the Othering & Belonging Institute at UC Berkeley. Courtney is the founder of Suburbia Rising/Stories of Self & Solidarity and co-founder of the Justice & Faith Collective.

Jennifer Paterson McLaughlin
Suburbia Rising

Jennifer Paterson McLaughlin (she/her) grew up in Kirkland, entering public school the year redlining became unlawful in Seattle. Jennifer has a BA in Communication, a Master of Divinity, and a MA in Social Justice & Community Organizing. She began her career as a Protestant minister and seeing the need for radical inclusion; she shifted her focus to social justice. As many have said, "none of us are free till all of us are free." Jennifer has been leading race and social justice learning opportunities for over fifteen years, focusing on racial, immigration, disability, economic, gender, and sexual justice. She serves the city of Lynnwood as Vice-Chair of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Commission. She is a Community Organizer and is the Co-Founder of Justice & Faith Collective. Her experience working with children, youth, families, faith communities, non-profits, government, and C-suite leaders uniquely prepares her to understand and address varying perspectives. She uses a trauma-informed approach to working with clients.
