The Great Plains ADA Center is soliciting session proposals from those interested in presenting at either our in-person National ADA Symposium on May 21-24, 2023 in Kansas City, MO, or our virtual ADA Symposium June 12-14, 2023.
All sessions will be 90 minutes in length. If the content requires additional time, two-part sessions may be provided.
We will give consideration to any interesting topic submissions related to ADA implementation. However, special consideration will be given to topics relating to the following areas:
• Law Enforcement and Corrections
• Recreation
• The Judicial Process
• Healthcare
• Technology
• Higher Education
• Large and Small Business
The deadline for submissions for the in-person conference is October 1st, 2022.
The deadline for submissions for the virtual conference is October 14th, 2022.
The proposal submission forms are attached below. Please note that one is for the Kansas City in-person symposium and one is for the virtual symposium.
This year we will have approximately 100 sessions for the in-person event and around 48 sessions for the virtual. Most session slots are already filled with pre-selected session topics from various federal agencies and top evaluated speakers from past conferences. There could be less than 30 time-slots available that will be selected from this Request for Proposal (RFP) process. Competition will be high. We normally receive several hundred submissions each year.
All those submitting proposals will be notified no later than Friday, Dec 30th, 2022, of our decision. You may have up to two speakers per session (no panels); however, if selected, the National ADA Symposium will cover Full conference registration for one speaker per session only.

This webinar reviews the importance of effective communication in emergency management. Using real life examples and from the field, the speakers will address what effective communication means and how emergency managers can improve their public communication to make it effective to people with disabilities.
Learning objectives:
• Attendees will learn what effective communication means.
• Attendees will understand how to apply it to their work in emergency management
Presenters:
Aaron Kubey is a Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI) and Communication Access Specialist with FEMA since 2017. He graduated with his Masters in Public Administration with a focus on emergency management in 2020. Aaron is a strong believer in effective communication access, especially in emergency management.
Gay Jones is a Communication Access Specialist with FEMA.
