SCHOOL ART DAYS

Inyo Council for the Arts (ICA) 2024 School Art Days, in partnership with the Inyo County Office of Education (ICOE), Inyo County Probation Department and the California Arts Council, takes on a new twist!

With the support of the ICOE and Inyo County Probation Department, ICA has incorporated a literary element into the ICA School Art Day Programs. All of the 2023-2024 school art projects, brought to grades K-7th throughout the county, are inspired by two charming books, “Flora and Ulysses: The Illuminated Adventures” by Kate DiCamillo and “Donut Feed the Squirrels” by Mika Song. Both of these heartwarming stories tell tales of friendship, donuts, adventure and a little bit of mischief.

The ICA School Art Days bring art directly to all students in the comfort and safety of their schools. Consistent arts participation provides the opportunity for social-emotional learning, including the development of self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. With this in mind, we believe that we can better serve our Inyo County student population by bringing arts opportunities directly to all of them. To further their interest in art and reading, at the end of every School Art Day, each student receives one of the books and an art kit to take home.

Thank you to all of the volunteers, sponsors and facility staff that make these wonderful School Art Days possible!
