Introducing the Nueva Luz Study Center

Arts and Entertainment

June 30, 2023

From: En Foco

Dear En,

En Foco is launching the virtual Nueva Luz Study Center, chronicling its legacy of service to over 400 photographers, curators and culture writers. Nueva Luz, first published in 1985 and continues to this day, is now digitized and available to curators, educators, and the public interested in learning about a creative community that has been frequently overlooked.

This valuable resource will address the inequities by providing access to information about artists, many of whom are not well known. It will also serve as a catalyst for related programming. To that end, En Foco has introduced the NLSC Commissioning Fund, designed to give artists and scholars access and support to delve into the inherent themes, artists and/or issues, and to produce a new project based on their research. The projects will be included in a future issue of Nueva Luz. The submission deadline is July 19, we have multiple info sessions for artists.

The viability of the Study Center is clear, but its success can only be realized through the widespread dissemination of its availability. I am asking you to share it with your colleagues and friends so that its value can be appreciated.

We hope that you will peruse the attached NLSC Guide that connects you to the Nueva Luz Study Center and let us know your thoughts, comments, and questions at [email protected]. Help us to spread the word about this important new resource as well as opportunities for artists through the Commissioning Fund.

Sincerely,

Bill Aguado
