Infighting and Election Denial Cause Chaos at NVGOP State Convention

Government and Politics

May 6, 2024

Last weekend, the Nevada GOP held their closed-to-press state convention that was dominated by Republican infighting and dangerous election conspiracy theories. Keynote speaker insurrectionist Scott Presler’s speech highlighted “persistence”, which the NVDems will be more than happy to help the Nevada GOP highlight. The NVGOP has been persistent in their unfounded claims of election denial and keeping those who still deny the results of the 2020 election in control of the party.

Indicted fake elector, Nevada GOP Chair, and “Trump’s man in Nevada” Michael McDonald gaveled in the meeting and chaos soon followed. Donald Trump endorsed at least two of the six now-indicted fake electors, who attempted to steal the 2020 election in favor of Trump, to be Nevada’s 2024 electors. Lombardo’s GOP re-elected indicted fake elector Jim DeGraffenreid and former Republican candidate for Attorney General Sigal Chattah, who said Nevada’s first-ever Black Attorney General should be “hanging from a f*cking crane” to the Republican National Committee.

Former Trump Ambassador Jeff Gunter slammed Sam Brown for “refusing to even mention MAGA, America First, or President Trump” on his flyers during the convention. Gunter also posted the laundry list of “Scam Brown’s terrible, no good, very bad campaign.” This attack comes after weeks of Brown’s desperate attempts to praise Donald Trump and pander to the far-right wing of his party, as these Senate candidates fight to out-MAGA each other in the messy primary that even Mitch McConnell is calling “tough” for his handpicked candidate Sam Brown.

In CD-4, Trump wannabe David Flippo criticized grifter John Lee for skipping out on Saturday’s MAGA extravaganza and for Lee’s refusing to debate just weeks before the primary election.

In CD-3, MAGA extremist Elizabeth Helgelien was so determined to be at the MAGA convention that she drove through a blizzard. She took some time to congratulate insurrectionist Scott Presler, who helped plan “stop the steal,” on his “inspiring talk.” Wonder what they talked about?

Election denier Jessie Jane Duff, who continues to peddle conspiracy theories about the 2020 election, made a stop by Lombardo’s GOP convention to see the clown show for herself and to have some “laughs” with Lombardo’s endorsed candidate for AD-39, election denier Ken Gray, who she calls “good company”.

“Republican chaos was on full display at the Republicans’ state convention,” said Nevada State Democratic Party spokesperson Tai Sims. “The Nevada GOP, led by Joe Lombardo and indicted fake elector Michael McDonald, is in lockstep with Donald Trump and MAGA extremists on their unfounded denial of the 2020 election. While Republican infighting and election denial dominated the GOP convention, Democrats are united and will continue fighting to protect access to the ballot box.”
