Hygienic Artists Collective

We have one studio available in the Hygienic Artist Collective! Being a member of the Collective offers opportunities to participate in Gallery Shows, Hygienic programming, and a supportive environment for artists to explore their skill set, gain feedback, and expand their professional network.

Being a member of the Collective is a self-driven experience. While we are here to help you fulfill your goals and provide direction, it is up to you to reach out to others, ask for the help you need, and to discover new opportunities. There is a lot that happens here, and things move very fast at times.

Living above the Galleries:

Each of the Hygienic studio apartments includes a bedroom with flexible living/studio space, a full kitchen with a dishwasher, and private bathroom. Not all apartments are lofted. Artists are expected to maintain their apartments and communicate with Board Members for repairs.

Common space and Garden of Hygienia are maintained by Hygienic Artist Collective and community volunteers.

To apply, download the Collective Application, https://www.hygienic.org/hygienic-artists-collective fill out completely, and either scan and send it via email, regular mail or drop it off in person at the gallery.

Meet The Headliner

Who Is Daniel Kalwhite?

Hygienic Art Welcomes The New Haven Based Comedian To New London On February 17th!

Daniel Kalwhite is a comedian from Connecticut. He will be headlining and starring in our upcoming comedy showcase, Comedy Bebop. We chatted with Daniel, and he talked about how he got his start in comedy in this exclusive interview!

Hygienic Art: Who are you? How long have you been performing?

Daniel Kalwhite: I have no idea who I am. I lost my memory 13 years ago right before I started performing standup comedy. 13 years, I think.

HA: Who or what inspired you to become a comedian?

DK: I was able to make people laugh off-stage and I wanted to see if I could do it on stage.

HA: What city or country is your favorite place to travel to?

DK: I’ve performed mainly on the east coast of the United States. I don’t like to travel. If you could magically transport places without traveling I’d like it. My favorite place is Hygenic Art place. People are real nice there.

HA: What can we expect to see from you on March 17th?

DK: Normally I’d like for it to be a surprise but if you must know I’ll probably be wearing clothes that are weather appropriate. I’ve been referred to as “old-timey” in the past.

HA: Is this your first time traveling to New London?

DK: No. I’ve gotten drunk at Hot Rods a few times and plan on doing it again soon. Maybe March 17th.
