Lecture: Sinking & Salvage of US Submarine s-4 with David Robinson
Thursday, October 5, 2023
7:00 - 8:30 pm

As dusk fell on the Saturday before Christmas of 1927, two Coast Guardsmen stationed at Wood End in Provincetown noticed the periscope of a Navy submarine breaking the surface of the water. Within minutes,the USCG cutter Hiram Paulding had rammed the S-4. Tragically, the S-4 and its entire crew were lost in 102 feet of water. Join us as David Robinson recounts the story of the S-4's recovery efforts. Learn More.

Veterans Coffee Hour

Military veterans are invited to the museum the first Friday of every month for an hour of coffee and conversation. Each session has a special focus and provides attendees with a community calendar of events, free activities and updates on services for Veterans. Get ready for Hull's Hills and Architectural Thrills led by architect Bob Pahl. Join us as we explore the architecture of Hull Village, one of the oldest communities on the South Shore. We'll examine buildings stretching from the Colonial era through to the Contemporary; discussing the unique expression of familiar styles in this remote fishing village.

Veterans Rowing Program
Saturday, October 7, 2023
10:30 - Noon

Military veterans are invited the first Saturday of each month to come out for a row as we poke around the edges of Hull Harbor, and if wind and tide are in our favor, perhaps a visit to Peddocks Island. No experience necessary, just a willingness to have a bit of fun with fellow veterans.

Volunteers are invited to lend a hand. If you know of any veterans who might be interested participating please pass the word or email us for further information.

Joshua's Staircase Gallery
Feature Friday En Plein Air Painters
Runs through October

The Hull Lifesaving Museum and the Friday Painters Group are partnering for a fall showing of their summer captures in our very own Joshua's Staircase Gallery. Artwork, the fruits of the love and labor from many of the painters who participated in this summer's program will be on exhibit. The show will run through October so be sure to drop by during museum hours to enjoy the exhibit and spread the word to friends and family to come by to admire the talent of our local art community. Don't overlook this great opportunity to purchase local art.

Head of the Weir
Saturday, October 14, 2023
$45 per person

The Head of the Weir Race is a fantastic annual event for rowers, paddlers and spectators alike. If you are a rower or paddler, sign up now or if you are a spectator, mark your calendar.

Best Places to view the race include: George Washington BLVD bridge, Worlds End Park at "The Ring Bolt" (ask the park staff for directions) and of course the finish line at the HLM Boathouse. At the finish line there will be an HLM gift shop table and food at the "Boathouse Bistro". Food is included for racers and for non racers all we ask is a $5 donation.

Conversation: The Best of Times, The Worst of Times With Hull Times Editors

The Best of Times, The Worst of Times: Two Hull Times veterans look back on the stories that made news in Hull over the past half-century as well as some of the local characters behind the headlines.

Susan Ovans, who covered Hull for 40 years before retiring as the newspaper's publisher in 2019, and Chris Haraden, who began has newspaper career at the Times as a teenager and is the paper's current editor, promise no topic will be "off the record" during the conversation.

Join us at the Hull Lifesaving Museum for this family-friendly "Hull-O-Ween" adventure that includes many spooky/fun surprises. Our walking trail will begin at the entrance to the museum, discovering the many pumpkins tucked into nooks and crannies, as you pass by 100+ carved jack-o'lanterns crafted by fellow Hullonians, onto the pumpkin-lit deck, and, if you dare, wander through our haunted wilderness trail, returning to the main lawn. Visitors are encouraged but not compelled to wear their Halloween costumes.October 14, 2023
