Mindfulness Meditation

Wednesday evenings

November 1 - December 13

7:00-8:00 pm

8:00-8:30 pm (Optional period of meditation)

This fall we will be delving deep into one of the most influential mindfulness books of the past century: The Wisdom of Insecurity - A Message for an Age of Anxiety by Alan Watts. This book encourages us to challenge our ordinary thinking of our world, our place in it, as well as our rigid thought structures designed to make us feel safe. These sessions will also include a period of insight meditation. If you are an experienced mindfulness practitioner, or at the beginning of your journey, or just curious, come on in and join us. All are welcome. To learn more please email or call us at 781-925-5453.

Comfort Birds - Wood Carving

Workshop with Mike Davison

Saturday, November 4, 2023

10:00 am - 1:00 pm

$45 per person

Retired Air Force Lt. Col. Mike Davison will be leading this three-hour workshop as we craft our own "Comfort Birds." Originally conceived as a small wood carving that can fit in the palm of one's hand, these sweet birds are often made as a token of affection and support for a love one in need.

Mike has personally carved hundreds of these birds, many distributed to local veterans, and will share with us the technique for making our own.

You won't want to miss this opportunity to create your own personal comfort bird.

Veterans Rowing Program

Saturday, November 4, 2023

Windmill Point Boathouse, Hull, MA

10:30 - Noon

Military veterans are invited the first Saturday of each month to come out on the water as we poke around the edges of Hull Harbor, and if wind and tide are in our favor, perhaps a visit to Peddocks Island. No experience necessary, just a willingness to have a bit of fun with fellow veterans. This month we'll be taking a mini-cruise around the harbor in the newest member of our fleet, the Emily M. Carroll.

Volunteers are invited to lend a hand. If you know of any veterans who might be interested participating please pass the word or email us for further information.

Hull FireFly is a spinoff of The Moth Story Hour on National Public Radio. Stories that are shared and true and must be told within a 3-5 minute period. Come hear the stories from the individuals who were instrumental in creating, developing and nurturing the South Shore Charter School as well as from former students of the school.

Questions and comments about each story are held until after all the stories have been shared, sort of like a live theater "talk back with the actors", where audience members are able to ask questions that emerge from the story telling.

Reservations are required as seating is limited.
