Summer Reading 2023: All Together Now

Monday, May 22-Sunday, August 6 in the Children’s Department

(Ages 0-12) Summer is finally her, and we are ready for another spectacular summer reading program with you! Starting on May 22, come by the Homewood Public Library’s Children’s Department or visit our website at www.homewoodpubliclibrary.org/sr to sign up for summer reading. Once signed up, come pick up a goodie bag and a free book! You’ll receive a calendar reading log to track each day you read or listen to an audiobook. Bring your log to our children’s desk, and for every 3 days you mark off, you will earn an entry for our monthly drawings. A handful of winners are going to be picked at the end of every summer month.

Farmyard Friends

Monday, July 3, from 10:30-11:15 a.m. in the Large Auditorium

(All Ages) If you’re wishing you were at the farm today, look no further, because you can spend a wonderful morning with us and some farm animals from the DART Family Farm.

Summer Storytime

Wednesdays, July 5, 12, 19, and 26, from 10:30-11 a.m. in the Round Auditorium

(Preschool) Start a beautiful morning with our favorite storytellers as they share interactive stories and energetic songs everyone can join in on.

Nature on Wheels

Thursday, July 6, from 3:30-4:15 p.m. in the Large Auditorium

(All Ages) From animals to ecosystems, learn about the rich natural history and biodiversity of Alabama with The Alabama Wildlife Federation’s Nature on Wheels.

Fiddlesticks Music

Saturday, July 8, from 10:30-11:30 a.m. in the Round Auditorium

(Preschool) Bring your toddler for a musical morning filled with interactive activities! Register online.

Music Mornin’ with Cap’n Dave

Tuesday, July 11, from 10:30-11:15 a.m. in the Large Auditorium

(All Ages) Get your dancin’ feet and clappin’ hands ready for a morning music show with local musician, Cap’n Dave!

Destination Science Camp!

Tuesday, July 11, from 3:30-4:15 p.m. at the Lee Community Center

(All Ages) You matter when it comes to science, and The Science Lady’s experiments about the different states of matter will surely prove it!

Local for Littles: Soil Science with Alabama 4H

Wednesday, July 12, from 3:30-4:15 p.m. in the Large Auditorium

(All Ages) Learn about everything a seed needs to thrive in this fun 4H Soil Sam program! Kids will also make a project to take home and watch grow!

Pre-K Play

Fridays, July 14 and 28, from 9:30-11 a.m. in the Round Auditorium

(Preschool) Stay cool and enjoy a passive playtime with your toddler every other Thursday afternoon.

Snakes ‘n Stuff!

Monday, July 17, from 10:30-11:15 a.m. and 3:30-4:15 p.m. in the Round Auditorium

(All Ages) Check out some slithery snakes and other fascinating reptiles with our favorite Snake Guy, Aaron! Register online.

Mr. Larry’s Magic Show

(All Ages) Enjoy a morning filled with awe and wonder from one of our favorite local magicians, Mr. Larry!

Local for Littles: Flight School with Southern Museum of Flight

Wednesday, July 26, from 3:30-4:15 p.m. in the Large Auditorium

(All Ages) Please fasten your seatbelts for this aviation session with the Southern Museum of Flight and hands-on fun where knowledge takes flight! The museum is located in Birmingham, which is the largest aviation museums in the Southeast, housing over 100 aircrafts and memorabilia, and is home to the Alabama Aviation Hall of Fame.
