2communiqué Corporate Sponsor Profile

2communiqué is a communication strategy and design firm nestled in the Hudson/Park neighborhood. Our clients may be national but our heart is in Albany. Since we relocated to the area in 2011 we have partnered with Lark Street B.I.D, Hudson/Park Neighborhood Association, Trinity Alliance, and Historic Albany to clarify their brands and elevate their messaging.

In addition to our commitment to local organizations, in 2018 we purchased 73 Dove Street—a building that needed a little love and attention. We worked with Albany Artisans to completely renovate the first floor into a modern workspace with a historic footing (recognized by HAF Preservation Awards for Sensitive Reuse of a Commercial Building). Two years later we were
the recipients of a generous grant from Capitalize Albany and were able to renovate the building's facade. Visit us to check it out.

We are honored to be a 2022 sponsor of Historic Albany Foundation as well as the sponsor of the Built Young Artist award. We are looking forward to next week’s event (and to adding more art to our collection!)

Announcing the Marcus T. Reynolds Society

In September of this year, Historic Albany Foundation, along with 19 other nonprofit organizations received funds from the will of Mary Stock. Mary was a resident of Niskayuna and a longtime volunteer at many organizations in Albany. The funds that Mary left to 20 organizations can and has made a real and lasting impact. Receiving generous funds that are unplanned for in a budget can help an organization immensely, especially in our uncertain world and economy when so many of us are dependent on the generosity of our communities to enable us to carry out our missions.

That is why we are choosing now to announce the Marcus T. Reynolds Society, Historic Albany Foundation’s new planned giving initiative. We announced this new program on Wednesday evening at our annual major donor appreciation event. We want to use Mary’s example to encourage others to think about leaving a legacy for future financial stability and viability of Historic Albany Foundation, especially as we look to our 50th year in 2024.

Planned gifts, or bequests, can be left in any amount, or a percentage of your remaining estate, such as Mary Stock did in her will. Gifts can be donated as unrestricted to be used as HAF deems appropriate, or can be left for a specific restricted use for a program or area of interest. For example, we have a current planned gift to be used for future educational programming and tours.

If you are interested in making a planned gift to Historic Albany Foundation, have already included us in your will, or would like to learn more, please contact Pamela Howard, our Executive Director at 518-465-0876. A simple letter of intention can be found here.

What's New in the Warehouse?

It’s Halloween, That Means…
…it’s time to build your own “Amityville Horror” house!!!

Wait. You mean to tell me that not everyone goes to such extremes to make festive for Halloween?!

Regardless. If you have a Dutch Colonial or other old home that would benefit from the addition of quarter-round windows or just want to bring some classic character to a new build, this pair of salvaged frames are just the trick for your treat!

Each approximately 28” wide by 25 ¼” tall and 7” deep; require lites approximately 17 5/8” by 18 ½”

Bentwood Isn’t Just a Kind of Chair…

…apparently! Here is a delicious butter churn manufactured by the M. Brown Company of Wapakometa, Ohio, that celebrates its bent wood components in its name.

This design, patented in 1877, used fewer individual pieces of wood—one thin sheet bent around two u-shaped panels—and resulted in a churn box with only two seams and no corners for smoother and more complete mixing. The support structure has also been simplified (and aesthetically enhanced) by the use of bent-wood stock.

This example is a No. 0 with a 9-gallon capacity. It is in good condition, with some wear and fading to the printed detail and type. The mechanism turns easily, and the internal paddles are in excellent shape. It would make an excellent addition to a collection of 19th-century items or a lovely decorative focal point in a room!
