Fort Ticonderoga, surrounded by magnificent autumn backdrops of the Adirondacks and Green Mountains will present the Annual Heritage, Harvest, & Horse Festival on September 30, 2023.  The full day of autumn fun will be set in the midst of the King’s Garden heirloom apple trees and the beautiful landscape of the mountains and Lake Champlain.

Guests are invited to discover the historical importance of horses and other working animals during exciting demonstrations, meet our friendly oxen duo, stroll through Fort Ticonderoga’s farmers’ market featuring local food, beverages, and crafts, participate in family fun activities, and tackle the six-acre Heroic Corn Maze. This fall favorite event, combined with daily Fort Ticonderoga programs, makes for a great annual family tradition.

Whether you are looking to experience a horse-drawn wagon ride, indulge in local homemade delights, or pick apples by the bag from our heritage apple orchard, there is something for everyone and all ages when it comes to our Annual Fall Festival!

10:30 a.m. -4:00 p.m. Local Food and Harvest Market

America’s Fort Café, “localvore” food including Food Trucks, craft distilled liquors, the Annual Vegetable, Seed, and Plant Sale; a Harvest Market featuring locally grown and made products including; perennials and produce, maple syrup, honey, apple products, homemade jams, jellies, and pies; and more!

10:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Heroic Corn Maze: A Corn Maze Adventure!

Visit Fort Ticonderoga’s highly acclaimed Heroic Corn Maze: A Corn Maze Adventure! where visitors explore the six-acre corn maze, with a new British 1760 garrison theme for 2023! Guests are able to find their way through the maze by selecting the correct answers to clues connected to Fort Ticonderoga’s
history!

10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Horse-Drawn Wagon Rides

Ride around the beautiful grounds of the King’s Garden in Country Dreams Farm’s wagon, pulled by a great team of draft horses.

10:30 a.m. Carillon Boat Cruise additional ticket required

A narrated boat tour aboard Fort Ticonderoga’s 60-foot Carillon provides visitors with breathtaking lake views of commanding mountains and the majestic fort. View some of the most archaeologically rich waters in North America with the onboard sonar. *Additional ticket required. As available, tickets can be purchased by visiting the Guest Services desk inside the Log House Welcome Center, purchasing at the boat dock, or online at www.fortticonderoga.org.

11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Split Rail Fence-a-Thon (King’s Garden Paddock)

See how split rail fences for livestock were made for centuries, from splitting locust logs to stacking up fence rails. Watch Fort Ticonderoga’s oxen, Mick & Mack, in action as they help haul the materials to construct their winter home. Try your hand at splitting or stacking rails

11:30 a.m. Continental Dragoons and Volunteer Light Horse (Begins at Horse Demonstration Area)

Discover two tales of Revolutionary War cavalry and how they served campaigns in 1775 and 1777. From self-equipped volunteer gentlemen to enlisted soldiers in the Continental Army, explore the equipment clothing & training of these American cavalry soldiers.

12:00 p.m. -2:00 p.m. Flower Arranging (Inside the Green House)

Create a beautiful arrangement of King’s Garden flowers and take home some of the beauty of this historic garden.

12:30 p.m. From Brunswick to Bennington (Begins at the Horse Demonstration Area)

Go behind the legends of heavy boots and missing horses to understand the real story of Colonel Baum’s Brunswick dragoons. Explore the origin and dismounted service of these German cavalry with General Burgoyne in 1777.

2:00 p.m. Horse Heroes of 1814 (Begins at the Horse Demonstration Area)

Examine how mounted militia volunteers and dismounted regulars shaped the 1814 Battle of Plattsburg. Discuss how this dramatic battle demonstrated the power and limitations of a well-regulated militia in the defense of the new United States

2:30 p.m. First Vermont Cavalry (Begins at the Horse Demonstration Area)

Serving practically the entire American Civil War, the First Vermont Volunteer Cavalry had an impressive record in many famous battles with the Army of the Potomac. See how these cavalrymen in Federal service could fight whether mounted or dismounted with their carbines, pistols or sabers. Discover how these cavalrymen served as the eyes and ears of an army and as a potent raiding force even in an era of rifle-muskets and repeating arms.

3:00 p.m. Green Mountain Hounds (Begins at the Horse Demonstration Area)

From its traditional colonial past, to its 20th-century revival, see how the sport of fox hunting has evolved over time. Meet members of the Green Mountain Hounds as they demonstrate their contemporary version of this sport which unites horses and hounds together for an exciting pastime.
