Arts and Entertainment

August 2, 2023

From: Harvard Art Museums

Catch the remaining days of American Watercolors, 1880–1990: Into the Light before the exhibition closes on August 13! In a recent review, Murray Whyte of the Boston Globe remarked that there is a “subtle earthquake of aesthetic pleasure to be found within.” This exhibition has captured the imagination of visitors from across the world—don’t miss it!

Join us online for a gallery talk on Tuesday, August 22, to learn about Hans Arp’s sculptural work in the Busch-Reisinger Museum’s collection. Or, on Friday, August 25, come in for an Art Study Center Seminar examining Arp’s plaster casts and models. Keep an eye on our calendar for more events coming your way!

There are just two weeks left to visit American Watercolors, 1880–1990: Into the Light, which showcases both well-known and historically underrepresented artists who have worked in this quintessentially American medium. Interested in learning more? Hear curator Joachim Homann’s perspective in this short video.

In her review of the American Watercolors exhibition for the Bay State Banner, Susan Saccoccia reserves the highest praise for works by canonical Black artists, from Richard Foster Yarde to Beauford Delaney. Make plans to come see for yourself these marvelously diverse works spanning more than a century.
