Monday, February 6

 Dual Generation Workforce Initiative Information Session - Guilford County Schools has partnered with CompTIA, the world's leading IT association, to help parents and guardians of Guilford County Schools get an IT job, even without experience. Through this partnership, parents and guardians can apply for a 12-week CompTIA live instructor-led training, which includes everything you need to get IT certified and land your first IT job. Register HERE for this virtual session and learn everything you need to know to apply for this FREE program. The information session begins at noon.

Black History Month Spirit Week- High Point Central High is recognizing African American figures of the past and present. Each day is packed with a different theme, an opportunity for students to express themselves and new facts.

Tuesday, February 7

District spelling b-e-e – Local orthographers will come together Tuesday morning for the district-wide spelling bee. It will be held in Smith High School’s auditorium at 9:00 a.m. The winner of the competition will advance to a regional bee in Charlotte in March.

School Board meeting – The Guilford County Board of education will meet in the board room at GCS Central Office at 6:00 p.m. 

Wednesday, February 8

National School Counseling Week- National School Counseling Week, sponsored by ASCA (American School Counselor Association), highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career. We have 224 School Counselors who serve elementary, middle and high school students. Counseling Services will celebrate school counselors with a series of luncheons. They’ll be held February 8-10th from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the GCS Office on Lees Chapel Road.

Parent Registration Meetings - Guilford Parent Academy and the GCS counseling department will offer a parent registration meeting for rising ninth and sixth graders. These meetings will give parents registration information and help them understand the transition from elementary to middle school and middle school to high school.

Thursday, February 9

Tiger Day – Jamestown Middle school will be honoring their fiercest students of the quarter. The quarterly awards ceremony will recognize students for A and AB honor roll, Excellence in individual subjects and Tiger Pride. The events will be held at 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

GCS Families Connect Sessions - Superintendent Whitney Oakley continues her “Better Together” listening campaign and invites families of GCS students to share their GCS lived experiences. These engagement sessions will provide time for Dr. Oakley to hear from families and answer questions. The first session will be held at Northern High School at 5:30 p.m.

Penn-Griffin Sit-In celebration – Students at Penn-Griffin School for the Arts will honor the 26 individuals who participated in the first Woolworth lunch counter sit-in in Downtown High Point. The demonstration became the first sit-in led by high school students in the United States. A celebration will feature presentations from all of the arts programs at Penn-Griffin, there will also be a guest speaker from the local community. The event begins at 7:00 p.m.

Friday, February 10

Western high Fastenal grant presentation - Thanks to a grant from Fastenal, students at Western High can get more hands-on logistics training. The school was able to purchase a Reach Lift Truck Personal Simulator. Students and staff will thank Fastenal for the grant and showcase their skills at a ceremony that begins at 11:00 a.m. In addition, students, teachers and representatives from Fastenal will be available for interviews. 

Orchestra Fest- Pre-MPA style adjudication for orchestra students across the county will be held at Northwest High from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
