Friday, August 25

Southeast Grand Entrance – Before tonight’s football game, a group will jump out of a plane and parachute into the stadium. The Jump is set to take place at 7:00 p.m. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday, August 26

Back-to-School Resource Fair- Guilford County Schools is one of several partners in the Back-to-School Resource Fair and Bookbag Giveaway. Representatives from several GCS departments along with other community agencies and vendors will be at NC A&T Truist Stadium to provide tools to make this year a success. Students can get required immunizations, get help with transportation and make sure their contact information is correct. The resource fair is from 11:30 am to 2:00 p.m.

College Students Start the Year with Service - First year Elon Law students will volunteer their time at four schools throughout the day. Their schedule is as follows:

Academy at Lincoln 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Falkener Elementary 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Washington Montessori 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

Monday, August 28

First Day Fanfare:

 - High Point Central – The marching band, teachers and cheerleaders will turn up the noise as they welcome students to campus for the first day of school. The band has arranged special songs to celebrate Bison Nation.

 - Dudley High – Students will be welcomed by exciting cheers, performances and a visit from Superintendent Oakley. Dr. Oakley’s visit begins at 8:45 a.m.

 - Southern Middle – A DJ, cheerleaders and school staff will create a welcome line as students return to campus.

 - Jesse Wharton – First-time students will be inducted into Giraffe Nation. At 12:30 p.m. Kindergarteners will be assigned to their “towers.” This is like how students are assigned to houses in Harry Potter.

 - Pearce Elementary – Boosterthon will bring its pep team to campus to welcome students with inflatables, cheering and streamers.

 - McNair Elementary – The Kappa Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. will distribute nearly 500 backpacks with supplies to every student at the school as they enter on the first day.

 - Gibsonville Elementary – Dr. Oakley will visit Gibsonville at 6:45 a.m.

 - Northeast Middle – Dr. Oakley will visit Northeast Middle at 7:45 a.m.

 - Haynes-Inman – Dr. Oakley will visit Haynes-Inman at 1:15 p.m.

 - Millis Road Elementary – Dr. Oakley will visit Millis Road at 2:00 p.m.

 - Jamestown Middle – Dr. Oakley will visit Jamestown Middle at 3:00 p.m.

 - Eastern High

 - Washington Montessori – 20 volunteers from NCAT will welcome and cheer on students as the enter
 
Friday, September 1

Ragsdale Fall Kickoff – Ragsdale High will host a day of fun and enrichment for students. From 9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., students will participate in rotating sessions consisting of a career fair, social-emotional learning seminars, games, and class pictures and giveaways. The students will then participate in a Pep Rally at 3:00 p.m., leading to a pre-game tailgate.

Summer Meals - Young people living in Guilford County can receive free breakfast and lunch. More than twenty school and community locations host summer meal distributions. Meals are available Monday through Thursday from 8 to 9 a.m. for breakfast and 11 a.m. to noon for lunch for people ages eighteen and younger. The last day of distribution is August 17. An interactive map located on the district’s data dashboard allows families to input their zip code and find school and community meal sites closest to them.
