At its meeting on January 23, the City Council unanimously appointed Clint Weirick as its newest City Council Member, filling the vacancy following the November 2022 Municipal Election. Council Member Weirick will serve the remainder of the term of the vacant seat through December 2024.

When Karen Bright was elected as Mayor, her Council seat became vacant. In December 2022, the City Council decided to fill the Council vacancy by appointment instead of holding a special election and select a candidate within the newly formed District 4. All eligible Grover Beach residents who live within District 4 boundaries were invited to apply for the remaining term of the Council seat. The Council interviewed four applicants and collectively appointed Clint Weirick for the position based on his civic participation, experience and vision for the future.

“Mr. Weirick comes to the Council with extensive experience in state, county and city government. He has an understanding of how to support our thriving community while working within the limitations of our budget,” said Grover Beach Mayor Karen Bright. “We are confident that Clint Weirick will serve as a good community representative and collaborate with fellow Council Members to address the important goals set by the Council.”

Weirick was born and raised in Grover Beach and is very involved in the community. He is a member of the Grover City Grange #746, the Friends of the Grover Beach Library and the Grover Heights Elementary School Parent-Teacher Association (PTA). Additionally, Weirick has experience serving as the Battalion Chief of the Friends of the Five Cities Fire Authority, Co-Chair of the South County Chambers of Commerce Governmental Affairs Committee and Chair of the Behavior Health Advisory Board. Weirick also served two years as a District Representative for the California State Senate.

“I have so much passion and love for this community. In my time living in many neighborhoods across Grover Beach, I’ve seen the diversity of white collar and blue collar workers that make this City great,” said Council Member Clint Weirick. “The depth and breadth of my experience serving the community provides me with the background in local government to hit the ground running. Working on the City Council is a ‘we’ sport, not a ‘me’ sport. I look forward to working with my fellow Council Members to achieve the goals we will be setting in the coming weeks.”

With his appointment, the Grover Beach City Council now consists of Mayor Karen Bright, Mayor Pro Tem Anna Miller and Council Members Robert Robert, Daniel Rushing and Clint Weirick. Council Members will continue to serve four-year terms that expire at staggered intervals, and Council seats in Districts 3 and 4 will be up for election in 2024.
