August Family and Children’s Activities

Children’s Book Bundles (Registration Required)
Through August 31
The bundle of the month includes handpicked books, a small craft, and a list of suggested activities to do with the family. Reserve online at grotonpl.org or by calling (860) 441-6750. Participants must have an active library card.

Babies & Books
Monday, August 1 & 8, at 10 a.m.
Babies ages birth-2 will enjoy nursery rhymes, simple stories, songs, finger plays, and movements. Open playtime will be offered after storytime.

Monday Matinee
Monday, August 1 & 8, at 1 p.m.
Take a break from the heat and watch a family-friendly film with us this summer. Bring a snack or purchase popcorn from the Junior Friends, all proceeds benefit the Groton Public Library. Don't forget your blanket and pillow! Call the Library at (860) 441-6750 for film titles.

Summer Camp Crafts
Tuesday, August 2 & 9, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Children are welcome to drop in to the Groton Public Library to make a craft, available while supplies last! Recommended for ages 4 and up.

Sing & Stomp
Wednesday, August 3 & 10, at 10 a.m.
Join us for an active, music-enriched program open to all! Sing & Stomp is a noisy half hour of songs, dance, and fingerplays; no registration necessary.

STEM Grab & Go
Thursday, August 4 & 11, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Children ages 5 and older can pick up a grab & go bag at the Groton Public Library with all the supplies needed to complete a STEM activity. Build it yourself with the included instructions or follow along with the 4-H representatives on their YouTube channel.

Preschool Stories
Thursday, August 4 & 11, at 10 a.m.
Children ages 3-5 are welcome to join Miss Andrea at the Groton Public Library for stories and songs!

Fun Fridays: Reading Maps with DPNC
Friday, August 5, at 3:30 p.m.
Kids and teens entering grades 4-12 will take part in a fun activity each week at the Groton Public Library. All supplies are provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

Summer Reading Finale: Family Magic Show
Friday, August 12, at 10 a.m.
Help us celebrate the end of the Groton Public Library’s Summer Reading Program with a family magic show, presented by Justin Mazz. This magic show is an ever-changing, fun mix of magic, games, juggling, and more. After the show, drop by the Children's Room for an ice cream treat. Funded by the Circle of Friends.

Learn & Play Playgroup
Wednesday, August 24 & 31, at 10 a.m.
This child-focused playgroup is for young children and their caregivers. Participants will have the opportunity to interact with others, make new friends, and learn by playing in a literacy-enriched environment. Each session will include activities, sensory materials, and toys. No registration is required; just drop-in!
