From: Great Plains Nature Center

The Great Plains Nature Center will host Walk for the Wild, a self-guided 5K challenge at the Great Plains Nature Center’s Chisholm Creek Park between October 8-14 from dawn to dusk daily, featuring a self-guided walk on its paved trails and bridges to get you moving a distance of 5K in our urban wildlife park. Our deer are ready to cheer you on as you make a difference for your health while raising awareness of the importance of wildlife conservation in Kansas.

Registration and participation are free! Visit our website to register and make a donation (optional) if you want to go the extra mile in supporting our mission. https://support.americaswildliferefuges.org/team/515993

For over 23 years the Great Plains Nature Center has provided nature education programs to thousands of kids every year with hands-on learning out in the wetlands of our park and inside classrooms at their schools. Kids experience the wonder of nature up close and meet animal ambassadors free of charge in our nature education programs. We make sure the next generation has the opportunity to fall in love with nature. In 2022 alone we served over 58,000 students and 11,395 "at-risk" youth with these programs. By participating in Walk for the Wild you'll demonstrate how much you value nature to your friends and family. Will you help us raise awareness about the beauty of nature and wildlife?

Don’t forget to take and share photos as you participate in the 5K Challenge or enjoy a visit to the Great Plains Nature Center or National Wildlife Refuges in the State of Kansas. Be sure to tag us using #WalkForTheWild and #WildlifeRefuge and #WichitaWildHabitat.

The mission of the Great Plains Nature Center is to provide opportunities for the public to investigate, understand and develop an appreciation for wildlife and the environment, while promoting sound stewardship of natural resources.
