7:00 pm: June Zero - Manhasset Cinemas
Jake Paltrow, 2022, 105 min, United States, Israel

The 1961 trial of Adolf Eichmann, architect of the mass murder of the Jews during World War II, is revisited in a gripping and surprising new vision from American filmmaker Jake Paltrow (The Good Night). This Hebrew-language drama, based on true accounts, tells its story from the intertwined perspectives of three largely unrelated figures: Eichmann; a Jewish Moroccan prison guard; an Israeli police investigator for the prosecution and a Holocaust survivor; and a 13-year-old Jewish Libyan immigrant.

Largely shot on 16mm film, Paltrow's vividly textured work uses these disparate points of view to paint an image of the diasporic Jewish people and, in its unorthodox narrative approach, reminds us that the same histories are experienced differently by people all over the world, and we are connected through shared traumatic pasts.

Includes Post-Screening Q&A with Director Jake Paltrow and Producer Ron Goldman

7:00 pm: Driving Madeleine (Une Belle Course) - Manhasset Cinemas
Christian Carion, 2022, 91 min, France

Rediscover the power of the kindness of strangers in this heart-warming film about a seemingly simple taxi ride across Paris.

When taxi driver, Charles (Dany Boon) reluctantly takes on an early-morning booking, he begins to regret his decision even more so when a cantankerous old woman, Madeleine (Line Renaud, Call My Agent!) is waiting begrudgingly at the pickup point. Despite his own personal grievances, Charles begins to realize that his problems are nowhere near as hard-pressing as his clients. At the age of 92, she must bow to the pressure of family and doctors, waiting to be forced into an assisted living facility. With a day at her disposal, Madeleine intends to drag it out for as long as possible, indulging in her final hours of freedom.

As the journey unfolds, so does the story of Madeleine’s long and eventful life – guiding the audience through her most monumental experiences, from romance to earth-shattering heartbreak. Described by Renaud, as “the most beautiful film of my life,” at 94 the Grande Dame of French entertainment is luminous in her role as Madeleine, delivering a sharp and deeply sincere performance in a retelling of a life truly well lived. In Driving Madeleine, watch the duo’s staggering chemistry, as the power of friendship is brought to life on screen. Driving Madeleine reminds us that inside every seemingly benign elderly woman we might pass on the street is a warrior, a nurturer, and a spirited adventurer.

7:00 pm: Matchmaking - Manhasset Cinemas
Erez Tadmor, 2022, 96 min, Israel

Endlessly witty, visually rapturous, and sweetly romantic, MATCHMAKING is a Romeo and Juliet-like saga (sans the tragedy!) of two young, eligible ultra-Orthodox singles looking for a match.

Moti (Amit Rahav from the Netflix international hit Unorthodox) spots Nechama (Liana Ayoun in a breakthrough performance), his sister's friend, and is instantly smitten, but isn't allowed to date the charming, beautiful young woman because she doesn't come from an Ashkenazi (European origin) family like his own, but rather comes from a Mizrahi (Middle Eastern origin) family. Over the course of time, Moti is sent on a whirlwind of dates with beautiful girls in the Orthodox community, but against everything he knows, he finds he must pursue his one true love, Nechama.

A joyous tale about tolerance and love, Matchmaking is Israel's biggest box office hit of the year and is full of hijinks, jokes, and slapstick humor thanks to matchmaker Malki (Irit Kaplan from the beloved Israeli show The Beauty Queen of Jerusalem and Academy Award entry Foxtrot) and her deputy, Baruch (Maor Schwitzer from the internationally acclaimed show Shtisel), along with plenty of one-liners about spicy salads and noodle kugels, with a heavy dose of Yiddish sprinkled into the Hebrew script.

7:00 pm: It Ain't Over - Manhasset Cinemas
Sean Mullin, 2022, 98 min., I United States

Lawrence Peter "Yogi" Berra is one of baseball's greatest. He amassed ten World Series rings, 3 MVP awards and 18 All-Star Game appearances. He caught the only perfect game in World Series history. Yet for many his deserved stature was overshadowed by his simply being himself and being recognized more for his unique personality, TV commercial appearances and unforgettable "Yogi-isms,"initially head-scratching philosophical nuggets that make a lot more sense the more you think about them.

In telling the whole story, It Ain't Over gives Berra his due in following the life of a savvy, commanding, bad-ball hitting catcher with a squat frame but also a D-Day veteran, loving husband and father and, yes, product endorser and originator (mostly) of his own brand of proverbs now ingrained into everyday life. Granddaughter Lindsay Berra  tells his story along with his sons, former Yankee teammates, players he managed, writers, broadcasters, and admirers (such as Billy Crystal), plus photos and footage on and off the diamond. Berra famously said, "I'd be pretty dumb if I started being something I'm not" and IT AIN'T OVER lovingly makes clear he stayed who he was for the benefit of baseball and everyone else.

Includes Post-Screening Q&A with Yogi Berra's son Larry Berra and granddaughter Lindsay Berra

7:00 pm: New Beginnings - Manhasset Cinemas
Philippe Lefebvre, 2023, 96 min, France

A "remarriage romantic comedy" about falling in and out …and in love starring two of France's most beloved comedic actors.

Alain (Frank Dubosc) is a star pianist, who shares his life with Diane (Karin Viard), a journalist working for a women’s magazine. After 30 years together, the couple’s youngest child is moving out and Alain and Diane are planning to spend quality time together - empty-nesters for the first time.

While Alain cannot wait for this new stage in their lives, Diane is struggling. It doesn't help that she is feeling aged-out by her younger co-workers. When Diane is rumored to have a lover, her co-workers suddenly see her as "cool" and she embraces her new feelings of vitality.  But what will that mean for Diane and Alaine?

7:00 pm: A Revolution On Canvas - Manhasset Cinemas
Sarah Nodjoumi, Till Schauder, 2022, 95 min, United States

An investigative documentary - celebrating one of Iran's most revolutionary artists, Nickzad Nodjoumi (Nicky Nodjoumi).

Born in Iran in 1942, but living in New York City, Nodjoumi traveled back to Iran to join the Islamic Revolution, making paintings and posters criticizing the Shah's regime. In 1980, the painter fled Iran following the protest of his solo exhibition, Report on the Revolution, and its subsequent shutdown at the hands of Islamic radicals at the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art. Decades later, the renowned artist and his daughter attempt to track down the missing paintings in hopes of reclaiming them. During the search, Sara, drawing on disarmingly frank conversations with both her father and mother, celebrated artist Nahid Hagigat, and grappling with complex feelings and mysteries tied to her upbringing, traces a timeline of events to understand the circumstances that led to her family's personal history echoing the treacherous path of many immigrant families caught in the crossfire of politics and life.

Equal parts introspective and investigative, filmmakers Sara Nodjoumi and Till Schauder expertly weave together the personal and political to create a moving narrative about the power of art, sacrifice, and family bonds.

Includes Post-Screening Q&A with artist Nicky Nodjoumi and filmmakers Sara Nodjoumi and Till Schauder.
