DIRECTOR'S NOTE

Happy New Year! We're excited to kick off the year with a month of fun all-ages events, including hula hooping, a winter reading challenge, and the return of last year's popular mini-golf fundraiser.

Looking for your next great read for the new year? Our library staff love to suggest recommendations - ask at the Library, browse our displays, email [email protected], or request a hand-picked book bundle through our website.

LIBRARY CLOSINGS FOR JANUARY
The Library will be closed on Monday, January 1 for New Year's Day and Monday, January 15 for Martin Luther King Jr Day. 

SPECIAL EVENTS

GRANDPARENTS AND GRANDKIDS STORY TIME AND BREAKFAST
Saturday, January 13 | 10 a.m.
Join us for a special story time and breakfast for grandparents and grandkids. All seniors and kids (ages 3+) are invited! Please note a special someone doesn't have to be a grandparent/grandchild specifically to join in on the story time fun. We’ll read stories, sing songs, and eat a tasty breakfast afterwards. Registration is required.

This intergenerational program is sponsored by the Carlisle Council on Aging and Human Services, the Gleason Public Library, and the Friends of the Gleason Public Library.

HULA HOOPING WITH WILDKAT HOOPS (AN INTERGENERATIONAL PROGRAM)
Tuesday, January 16 | 3:30 p.m.
Get your hoop on! Kat Suwalski will demonstrate and get you hooping with laughter and fun! Hooping promotes exercise, exploration, expression, movement, and dance. We’ll learn basic hooping moves while increasing hand-eye coordination, strength, balance, and agility in an hour filled with sillly fun. This program is for all ages. This program is sponsored by the Carlisle Recreation Department, the Carlisle Council on Aging and Human Services, and the Friends of the Gleason Public Library.

A HELPING HAND FOR TURTLES
Thursday, January 18 | 7 p.m.
Zoo New England's Field Conservation department works full time to protect wild animals and plants in New England and beyond. One of our most successful programs has been partnering with local schools to raise endangered baby turtles in classrooms, connecting kids with nature and boosting the turtle population at the same time. Conservation Outreach Coordinator Matt Kamm will share an overview and the exciting results of this innovative program at Carlisle schools and beyond, as well as offering insight into how Zoo New England approaches the conservation of species and wider ecosystems in New England's changing landscape.

Presented by the Carlisle Conservation Foundation and Gleason Public Library. Registration encouraged to reserve your seat, but walk-ins are welcome if space is available.

INDOOR MINI-GOLF FUNDRAISER 2024
Sunday, January 28 | 1-5 p.m.
On Sunday, January 28th the Gleason will be transformed into a fun, indoor mini golf course! Proceeds will benefit the Gleason's Interior Renovation Project and Gleason Public Library Endowment.

Register to tee off during a 1-hour timeslot. Tickets are $15 per person with a cap of $50 per family. Payment at the door by cash or check (made out to "GPL Endowment") preferred, or click here to pay online via Paypal (if Paypal account is in different name than event registration, please note on payment).

WINTER READING CHALLENGE 2024

Monday, January 8 through Thursday, February 29

Join us in the Winter Reading Challenge! This year, the challenge is to read 7 books that fit different challenges. To participate, stop by the library to pick up a copy of your foldable challenge booklet on or after January 8, or print one out at home. Read one book (at your reading level) for the challenge on each page. When you've completed your book, bring it in for a prize!
