Nowashe-on-the-Go!

The impetus for this Musings from Main arrived in the mail this week.
It may be off season for a visit to explore Nowashe Village but Nowashe-on-the-Go makes learning fun all year long!

THANK YOU!

Thank you to the many, many, volunteers that have donated their time and talents to the Friends of Wood Memorial Library & Museum over the past five decades. Several people have expressed an interest having a copy of the 50th Anniversary volunteer video we created to celebrate the Friends' 50th Anniversary.

We listened!

We have added music to the video and it is now available to be given out to those who would like a copy of it. Simply bring a flash drive to Wood Memorial Library during our open hours
Mondays and Thursdays
from
10am to 3pm

and we will download you a copy.

Would you like to volunteer, and support the Friends as they embark on the next 50 years? Fill out a volunteer form and we will contact to discuss your interests and available times.

- If you would like to speak with someone about scheduling a customized Nowashe-on-the-Go visit to your organization, contact Education Director, Liz Glaviano.

The FUN...
On January 26, Nowashe-on-the-Go visited the Ely Whitney Elementary School in Enfield, CT. We presented on Indigenous lifeways and culture from the Paleo Period to modern day. More than 120 students and faculty were able to experience the programs.

Our presentation included the hands-on exploration of artifacts, such as arrow heads and soapstone bowls; a variety of animal pelts. including bear, white tailed deer and coyote, and each participant was able to grind corn using a Woodland-era mortar & pestle.

The Fan Mail!
A wonderful package arrived this week that contained Thank You notes from the participants, and we are still smiling.  Below is just a small sample of the "fan mail" our educators received.

We'd like to thank the following Nowashe educators whose dedication and enthusiasm make Nowashe-on-the-Go such a success: special thanks to Maddie Gordon, Joan Degen, Christie Romano and Lindsay Kiesewetter.
