Welcoming Week:
September 9-18, 2022

Forbes Library is celebrating Welcoming Week in collaboration with the Center for New Americans and the International Language Institute this year. Launched in 2012 by Welcoming America and its members, Welcoming Week provides a platform for communities to foster mutual understanding between immigrants and non-immigrants, and a sense of belonging for all residents.

Together with the Center for New Americans, Forbes Library is pleased to launch an immigrant oral history project on the occasion of this year’s Welcoming Week. Center for New Americans and Forbes Library will collaborate to record the stories of several of Center for New Americans’ immigrant students and alumni with support from Northampton Open Media. These recordings will become part of the library's archives in the Hampshire Room for Local History. In addition to the oral history project, Forbes Library honors Welcoming Week with a display of books by and about immigrants for adults and children, as well as an interactive world map inviting people to indicate their or their ancestors’ place of origin.
