End of Year Demonstrations

It is hard to believe but the end-of-year class demonstrations are quickly approaching. As most of you know, Mill Ballet School invites families to attend their child's class during the last weeks of the academic year of dance to view their progress and get a peek into what their classes consist of. We have created a schedule that staggers the demonstrations between the dates of May 11-23 so please read it carefully and save the dates. Dates with no highlight will have their observations from May 11-16. Dates highlighted in yellow will have their observations between May 18-23.

Performance for Trainee Families

Families and friends of the trainees are invited to attend a showcase of pieces learned and performed by the students over the past year on Saturday, May 18 at 1 pm.

If you are interested in the trainee program for dancers ages 13+, please contact Melissa at [email protected].

Congratulations, Kaiya!

A huge congratulations to Mill Ballet Student Kaiya Crowley on winning The Best Documentary award from Greenfield Youth Film Festival for her documentary, The Pointe of Expression, which highlights the Choreographic Workshop and the River Dance Festival. Kaiya was also nominated for Best Director and Best Cinematography.

You can watch this wonderful documentary here. We are so proud of you, Kaiya, and thrilled with your well-deserved recognition at the festival.

Senior Reflections-Michaela Cavallo

Hi! My name is Michaela Cavallo, and I am a graduating senior at the Mill Ballet School. I plan to attend Lebanon Valley College for its 6-year Physical Therapy Program, where I will achieve a bachelor's in Exercise Therapy and a doctorate in Physical Therapy. I’ve been a student here for 14 years and a member of Roxey Ballet’s pre-professional Trainee program for 6 years. When I think back on my many experiences at the Mill, the main thing that sticks out to me is the amazing community that my family became a part of at my first Nutcracker audition all those years ago. The love we share with each other is evident in the lengths we go for each other outside of our class and rehearsal schedules. That love showed itself when our studio in Lambertville, my second home, was flooded during Hurricane Ida, and many of us rushed to save what we could. It showed itself when many of the Mill Ballet families extended a helping hand to myself and my dad when my family faced hardship at the end of my sophomore year. More importantly, it will continue to show itself after I graduate through the friends I leave behind and the new families who are just beginning their journey at the Mill. I will be forever grateful for the time I spent here and my many teachers who guided me through the good and bad times. However, I would like to thank the Roxeys directly for the impact they’ve had on me. Thank you, Mark, for pushing me beyond my limits and recognizing the strength I possess before I could. Thank you, Melissa, for understanding my feelings when I could not fully express them and for encouraging me to continue dancing no matter what happened outside the studio. Without the community that the two of you built at the ballet, I would certainly be very different from who I am today.

With all my love,

Michaela Cavallo

Alumni Spotlight-Cecilia Schmidt

Mill Ballet alumni Cecilia Schmidt is finishing up her sophomore year at FSU as a BFA candidate in The School of Dance. This year she has also been a member of The Corps de Ballet with The Tallahassee Ballet, dancing 7 days a week and between 6-12 hours a day. Cecilia says she has "learned that people who dance are the best kind of people and although classical ballet is still my favorite style of dance, I can also enjoy other styles! It was interesting to perform Nutcracker this year with a company other than Roxey Ballet, since it is a part of my DNA after so many years! I’m currently rehearsing for Sleeping Beauty and looking forward to performing it soon." Cecilia's summer plans include keeping in shape by dancing at the Philadelphia Ballet and dropping in for classes at the Mill.

Thank you for keeping us updated, Cecilia, and we look forward to seeing you this summer!

New Class Offering

Beginning this Wednesday, May 8, Mill Ballet will offer a 50 min weekly conditioning bootcamp taught by Ben Roxey at 6 am and 7 am at the school.

Ben Roxey, a passionate advocate for functional health and fitness, is the driving force behind Be Real & BR Training. With a lifelong connection to the arts, fitness, and a profound desire to help others, Ben's mission is to educate, inspire, and elevate lives.

Raised by his mom, a professional dancer, and a Brooklyn OG breakdancer and boxing trainer father, Ben's upbringing in the dance school and Roxey Ballet Company ignited his passion for coaching and motivating others. From teaching at Title Boxing Club to being a strength and conditioning coach for boxers & athletes, he instructs diverse groups, including group classes, small sessions and personalized training.

After growing up as a dancer, boxer, and athlete, Ben created the REAL total conditioning bootcamp. With unique mixes and high vibrations, the atmosphere will leave you motivated, inspired, and ready to conquer anything life throws at you. It's more than just a workout—it's a Movement that's real and thought-provoking. In only 50 minutes, classes will help you build agility and strength, and condition you to bring out your inner athlete no matter your age, experience, or physical ability.

To register for the class, go to the drop-in class tab under programs on our website, or click here and select the drop in class tab on the schedule. The cost is two people for $20 on May 8 and then $25 per person after that.
