The Eastman School of Music is excited to announce the Morning Chamber Music series for 2022-2023. All three concerts will take place in Hatch Recital Hall at 11 a.m. on Saturdays. These concerts will feature alumni guests: the guitar trio Ghidorah; cellist Jeffrey Ziegler; and baritone Malcolm J. Merriweather. Each guest will perform alongside current Eastman faculty and students in varied programs highlighting the rich diversity of the school.

Professor of Guitar Nicholas Goluses will be joined by Trio Ghidorah, made up of alumni guitarists Ken Luk ’11E, ’13 (MA), ’13E (MM), ’18E (DMA), Bernardo Marcondes ’19E (DMA), and Erik Gibelyou ‘19E (DMA): October 1, 2022. The performance will reflect a wide range of styles, with music from Mozart to Glass and Stravinsky to Piazzola.

Jeffrey Ziegler ‘95E: February 4, 2023; performing selections from his latest solo album, Zodiac.

Malcolm J. Merriweather ‘10E (MM): March 18, 2023; the program will include Dover Beach by Samuel Barber. Malcolm will also perform music by Margaret Bonds and Florence Price.

“Following on from the success of the Morning Chamber Music Series last year I have decided to focus again on inviting distinguished alumni to join the nationally and internationally recognized chamber musicians on our current string faculty,” says Rosemary Elliott, director of this series. “Many of our students go on to have successful careers combining chamber music, teaching, and performances in larger ensembles. Having alumni join us for this collaborative experience provides great inspiration for our current students.”

The guests will establish a mini residency at Eastman during the week of their performances. They will engage with students through their shared performances and will also give classes and presentations to the student body as a whole.
