DETROIT (September 21, 2022) —  Detroit Chamber Winds & Strings opens its 2022-23 concert season with its Nightnotes series at Hagopian World of Rugs. On October 7, 2022, at 7:30 p.m. Audiences are invited to enjoy the Brahms Clarinet Trio, among other chamber music works, in this casual and intimate venue.

“Our DCWS concerts are designed to create a personal connection between audience members and classical music.  Artists have the ability to speak to the audience and share personal insight into chosen works, and concerts often include Q&A sessions after the performance,” said Maury Okun, DCWS president.

Detroit Symphony Orchestra clarinetist Jack Walters will join DSO cellist David LeDoux and internationally acclaimed pianist Jee-won Oh in a concert featuring the Brahms Clarinet Trio.

Walters is the newest addition to the DCWS roster and curated this Nightnotes performance. A University of Michigan graduate, he studied under the tutelage of Dan Gilbert and Chad Burrow, before attending the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University and studying with Richie Hawley.

LeDoux joined the DSO in 2012 after serving as principal cello with the Syracuse Symphony. Before that, he served as principal cellist with the Baton Rouge Symphony, the Mississippi Gulf Coast Symphony and the Louisiana Sinfonietta.

Oh was born in Seoul, South Korea, and has performed internationally as a chamber musician and soloist.  Recent and upcoming performances include engagements on the Great Performers Series at Lincoln Center and the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC.

The concert is the first concert of the DCWS season and is part of the organization’s Nightnotes series. The Nightnotes series blends high-caliber performance with the warmth and intimacy known in chamber music. Audiences can experience performances by musicians from large orchestras, like the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and the Detroit Opera, while enjoying freshly baked cookies inside a rug store.

The collaboration with Hagopian began in 1994 and has continued for 28 years. Prior to that, the series ran for two seasons at Nigosian Rug Company in Birmingham.

In addition to this venue, DCWS has often taken advantage of interesting locations across metro Detroit to host concerts. Its Structurally Sound series takes audiences to historic and culturally relevant venues across the city and challenges musicians to curate a performance around the venue. This year, the series takes audiences to St. Matthew’s and St. Joseph’s Episcopal Church, the Carr Center’s new performance studio, and the Bearden Mural at the Detroit Institute of Arts.

The Signature Series performances take place in more traditional chamber music venues, including Kirk in the Hills and Royal Oak First United Methodist Church. This season includes our annual Holiday Brass concerts, as well as a collaboration with the Western Michigan University Chorale. The series concludes with a performance at the Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival.

Tickets to the performance are available now and can be bought at: detroitchamberwinds.org/performances/brahms-clarinet-trio/
