DCWS 2022-23 Season

Detroit Chamber Winds & Strings announces the start of its 2022-23 season. Centered around its theme of "Reconnect" this season reconnects audiences with diverse and immersive chamber music performances. The season begins September 7, 2022, with an annual celebration at the Hunt Street Station

December 10 | Kirk in the Hills

For Holiday Brass, the accomplished young choirs from Rochester Stoney Creek and Ann Arbor Pioneer high schools join DCWS brass for seasonal favorites and a new holiday work from composer/conductor Scott Boerma

January 27 | Detroit Institute of Arts

A fully staged production of Stravinsky’s miniature masterpiece, "The Soldier’s Tale," with Eisenhower Dance Detroit, along with the premiere of a Resonate reed quintet from Nathalie Joachim.

March 5 | Royal Oak First United Methodist

DCWS’ big brass choir presents a performance including Eric Ewazen’s popular Symphony in Brass and a new Resonate brass quintet from composer George Lewis.

April 1 | Kirk in the Hills

DCWS is joined by the Western Michigan University Chorale and conductor Kimberly Dunn Adams in a performance of Igor Stravinsky’s Mass, plus a new woodwind quintet from Resonate composer Pamela Z.

June 24 | Seligman Performing Arts Center

DCWS once again performs at the Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival, sharing the stage with world-renowned chamber music luminaries

Nightnotes Series (all performances take place at Hagopian World of Rugs)

October 7 

DSO clarinetist Jack Walters, cellist David LeDoux and pianist Jee-won Oh in a concert featuring the Brahms Clarinet Trio.

November 18 

Our own David Jackson, Pittsburgh Symphony trumpeter Neal Berntsen, and UMich pianist Amy I-lin Cheng join forces on works for trumpet, trombone and piano. 

March 24

The DSO Flute Quartet curates an evening featuring music of one, two, three, and four flutes.

May 12

Brandee Younger, Grammy nominated Jazz harpist, makes her DCWS debut.

June 2 

A DSO String Quartet presents chamber music classics and a new Resonate work for piano and strings by Courtney Bryan.

November 6 | St. Matthew’s and St. Joseph’s Episcopal Church

Violinist Kimberly Kaloyanides Kennedy and pianist Alvin Waddles explore the intersection of gospel and classical music in this historic sanctuary.

February 26 | Detroit Institute of Arts at the Bearden Mural

Trombonist Kenneth Thompkins presents music by Black composers in front of Romare Bearden’s stunning mosaic “Quilting Time.”

April 30 | Carr Center New Performance Studio

Detroit trumpeter Kris Johnson presents music from the Big Band era in the Carr Center’s new performance studio.

Detroit Chamber Winds & Strings is an ensemble committed to bringing to life the body of repertoire that utilizes between six and 20 musicians. DCWS musicians are drawn primarily from the Detroit Symphony and Michigan Opera Theatre orchestras.
